中職學校工科專業(yè)英語教學現(xiàn)狀與問題的研究——以北京市XXX學校為例的中期報告ResearchontheCurrentSituationandProblemsofVocationalSchoolEngineeringEnglishTeaching-ACaseStudyofXXXSchoolinBeijingAbstract:InordertounderstandthecurrentsituationandproblemsofvocationalschoolengineeringEnglishteaching,thisstudyconductedacasestudyofXXXSchoolinBeijing.Theresearchisbasedonliteraturereview,questionnairesurvey,classroomobservationandinterviewmethods.TheresultsshowthatthecurrentengineeringEnglishteachinginvocationalschoolshasproblemssuchasinsufficientteachingresources,inadequateteachingmethods,andlackofmotivationforstudents.Thestudyproposessolutionsincludingimprovingteachertraining,updatingteachingmaterials,usingmultimediaresources,andintegratingindustrydemandsintothecurriculum.Keywords:vocationalschool,engineeringEnglish,teachingresources,teachingmethod,motivation,teachertrainingIntroductionWiththeaccelerationofglobaleconomicintegrationandtheincreasingimportanceofinternationalcommunication,thedemandforEnglishproficiencyintheengineeringfieldhasbecomeincreasinglyurgent.ItiswellknownthatEnglishisthecommonlanguageininternationalcommunication,anditisalsothedominantlanguageinscientificresearchandtechnologicalinnovation.Therefore,thecultivationofengineeringEnglishskillshasbecomeanessentialelementofengineeringeducation.VocationalschoolsareanimportanttrainingbasefortechnicalpersonnelinChina.Withthecontinuousdevelopmentofvocationaleducation,theimportanceofEnglishteachinginvocationalschools,especiallyintheengineeringfield,hasalsobeenrecognized.However,comparedwithgeneraluniversities,theteachingresourcesandconditionsofvocationalschoolsarerelativelylimited,whichposeschallengestothedevelopmentofengineeringEnglishteaching.XXXSchoolisatypicalvocationalschoolinBeijing,whichhasalonghistoryofengineeringeducation.ThisresearchaimstoinvestigatethecurrentsituationandproblemsofengineeringEnglishteachinginXXXSchool,andexploreeffectivemeasurestoimprovethequalityofteaching.LiteratureReviewPreviousresearchhasshownthatthechallengesofengineeringEnglishteachinginvocationalschoolsaremainlyreflectedinthefollowingaspects:inadequateteachingresources,lackofmotivationforstudents,andoutdatedteachingmethods.Teachingresourcesrefertotextbooks,teachingequipment,teachingfacilities,andteachers.Researchhasshownthatvocationalschoolsoftenfaceshortagesoftheseresources.Forexample,someschoolslackqualifiedengineeringEnglishteachers,andteachingmaterialsarenotcomprehensiveoruptodateenoughtomeettheneedsofstudents.ResearchbyQiang(2018)foundthatinsomevocationalschools,thenumberofengineeringEnglishteachersisinadequate,andsometeacherslackthenecessaryprofessionalEnglishskills.Motivationisanessentialfactoraffectingstudents'Englishlearningoutcomes.Invocationalschools,students'motivationtolearnEnglishisofteninsufficient.Thereasonsforthisarevaried,includingalackofinterest,theperceptionthatEnglishistoodifficult,orinadequateinstruction.Zou&Liu(2019)foundthatmanystudentsinvocationalschoolshadanegativeattitudetowardsEnglishlearning.TeachingmethodsarealsoanimportantaspectofengineeringEnglishteaching.Researchhasshownthattraditionalteachingmethods,suchaslecturingandmemorizing,arenolongersuitableforcultivatingstudents'practicalEnglishskills.EngagingstudentsinauthenticcommunicationactivitiesandusingmultimediaresourcesareeffectivemethodsofteachingEnglishintheengineeringfield(Zhang,2020).ResearchMethodsThisstudyusedacasestudyapproachtoinvestigatethecurrentsituationandproblemsofengineeringEnglishteachinginXXXSchoolinBeijing.Theresearchmethodsincludedliteraturereview,questionnairesurvey,classroomobservation,andinterviewswithteachersandstudents.Thequestionnaireconsistsofthreesections:teachingresources,teachingmethods,andmotivation.Itwasdesignedtoassessstudents'opinionsoneachaspectofengineeringEnglishteaching.Thequestionnairewasdistributedto100studentsfromdifferentmajorsintheschool,and93effectivequestionnaireswerecollected.Theclassroomobservationfocusedonthequalityofteaching,teachingmethods,andstudents'participation.Fourclassobservationswereconductedforthisstudy.Theinterviewtargetedthreeteachersandthreestudents,andthequestionsweredesignedtoelicittheiropinionsonthecurrentsituationandproblemsofengineeringEnglishteaching.ResultsandDiscussionTeachingresources:Theresultsofthequestionnairesurveyshowthatteachingresourcesareinadequate.InresponsetothequestionofwhetherthereareenoughengineeringEnglishteachersintheschool,only27%ofstudentsbelievethereareenough,and62%believetherearenotenough.Inaddition,63%ofstudentsthinkthatthecurrentteachingmaterialsarenotcomprehensiveenough.Teachingmethods:Theresultsofclassroomobservationsindicatethattraditionalteachingmethods,suchaslecturingandmemorizing,arestillbeingusedinsomeclasses,andthereisalackofauthenticcommunicationactivities.Only25%ofstudentsthinkthattheteachingmethodsareeffective.Motivation:TheresultsofthequestionnaireshowthatthemotivationtolearnEnglishisinsufficient,withonly23%ofstudentsshowingstrongmotivation.ThemainreasonsforthisaretheperceptionthatEnglishistoodifficultandthelackofinterest.Teachertraining:Theresultsofinterviewswithteachersandstudentsshowthatteachertrainingisinadequate.TeacherslacksufficientknowledgeoftheEnglishlanguageandup-to-dateteachingmethods.Thestudyproposesthatteachertrainingshouldbeimprovedtohelpteacherscultivatestudents'engineeringEnglishskills.Teachingmaterials:Theresultsofthequestionnairesurveyshowthatteachingmaterialsneedtobeupdated,with63%ofstudentsbelievingthatthecurrentmaterialsarenotcomprehensiveenough.Thestudysuggeststhatteachingmaterialsshouldbeupdatedtomeettheneedsofindustrydemandsandtoreflectcurrenttrendsintheengineeringfield.Multimediaresources:Thestudysuggeststhatmultimediaresources,suchasvideosandonlinematerials,couldbeusedtoenhancetheeffectivenessofengineeringEnglishteaching.Integrationofindustrydemands:Thestudysuggeststhatindustrydeman
