\o"state"state.However,feministcriticRuthRobbinsarguedthatfeministisbynomeansasinglecategorywithclearlimits,fixedinasinglesemanticspace.Shebelievedthattheterm“feminism”hasmanymeaningsthatdependoncontext,thematiclocation,language,thematerialworldweinhabit,andourownpsychologicalspace,allofwhicharemixedtogether.Inothercases,itreferredmorebroadlytoadefenseofwomenagainstoppressionfrommen,oratotalizingworldview,anemphasisonthedifferencesbetweenmenandwomen.Nomatterhowfeminismisdefined,itdefinitelydenouncestheoppressionthatwomenfromgenerationtogenerationsufferinapatriarchalsociety.TheoriginoffeminismcampaigncouldbetracedbackasfarasMaryWollstonecraft’sTheVindicationoftheRightsofWomen(1792),whichdeclaredwomen’sliberationmovementanddevelopedwithit.Ithadappealstopublicforwomen’srights;criticizedpolicyandsocialsystem,andpursuedequaleducationrightsandfranchise.Feminismoriginatedfromthewomen’sliberationmovementintheWest.Asaprogressivevoiceandpower,asatrendofwomen’sconsciousresearchontheirownemancipation,itgraduallydevelopedintoaworldwidemovementandmadeanindeliblecontributiontotheglobalwomen’sliberation.Andfeminism,asaproductofthecombinationoftheoryandpractice,asanewspiritualposition,haspenetratedintothepolitical,economicandculturallifeofthewholesociety,affectingwomen’sconsciousnessandsocialdevelopmentatdifferentlevels,andpromotingthedevelopmentandprogressofhumansociety.Intheprocessofthedevelopmentoffeminism,duetotheinfluenceofhistoricalperiodsanddifferentcultures,manydifferentschoolshaveformedwithinit:liberalfeminism,radicalfeminism,socialistfeminism,post-modernfeminism,ecologicalfeminism,etc.Althoughthesefactionscameintobeingindifferentperiods,theyareallaimedatchangingthesituationofwomenbeingoppressed,improvingwomen’sstatus,criticizingpatriarchalculture,andpursuinggenderequality,soastoenrichhumancultureandpromotesocialprogress.Infact,theconceptoffeminismactuallyincludesthreemeanings:politicaltheoryandpractice.Fromthepoliticalpointofview,itpointsoutthatfeminismisapoliticalstruggletoimprovethestatusofwomenandarevolutiontochangetheideologyofhumansociety.Itsultimategoalistoeliminategenderinequalityandallinequalities,advocateequalityandcooperationbetweengenderandhumanbeings,andachievehumanharmonyanddevelopment;Fromthetheoreticallevel,feminismhasbroughtpeopleanewunderstandingoftheworldandanewresearchperspective.Atthesametime,ithasalsopointedoutthatthecoreoffeminismistoemphasizegenderequality.Whileaffirmingwomen,ithasputforwardsomenewvalues,theoriesandmethodologicalprinciplestochangepeople’straditionalideology;Fromtheperspectiveofpractice,wecanseethatfeminismisasocialmovementforwomen’sliberation,andthatfeminismisamultidimensionalaggregation.Therefore,wecannotmakeaspecificdefinitionoffeminism,whichalsoleadstotheimbalanceandprofoundtheoreticaldifferencesintheinternaldevelopmentoffeminism.2.2TheDevelopmentofFeminismThehistoryofthefeministmovementsisdividedintofourwaves.Eachwaveindicatesaspecificculturalperiodandinvolvementofwomenwiththemedia.Feministmovementstandsonaseriesofpoliticalandsocialactivities,whichchangesthesocial,political,andculturalpositionofwomeninthesociety.Althoughfeminismhasmanyformsandhaspassedthroughthemultiplewaves,itsimportanceisprevailingforalleviatingwomen’ssubjugatedpositionsinthemodernsocieties.Therearetwoviewsaboutwhenthefirstwaveofwomen’smovementbegan.Oneisthatitbeganinthe19thcentury,inthesecondhalfofthecentury,itlastedformorethan70yearsandreachedthehighestpointintheFirstWorldWar;Anotherviewisthatitwasintheearly20thcentury.Atpresent,itiswidelyacceptedthatthefirstwaveoffeministmovementtookplacebetween1840and1925.Themaingoalofthemovementistostriveforequalpoliticalrightswithmen,tofightforwomen’ssuffrage.Attheendofthefirstwaveofwomen’smovement,womenhavemadegreatachievementsinvotingrights,educationandemployment.Itshowsthatmoreandmorewomenhavetherighttovote;Women’seducationiswidelycarriedout;Women’semploymentincreased.However,thetraditionalgenderrolenormshavenotchangedmuch.Therefore,othergoalsofthefirstwaveofwomen’smovementalsoincludetherighttoretainpropertyforwomenandtheirownwagesaftermarriage;Therightnottobeabusedbyherhusband;Striveforchildcarefeesforwomen;Increasetheagelineofgirls’consenttosexualintercourse.OneofthecontentsoftheAmericanwomen’smovementinthe19thcenturywastoraisetheagelineofyounggirlsunderthe(prohibited)lawfrom18to21.Thelawstipulatesthatsexualrelationswithminorsarenotallowed,evenifsheherselfagreesthatherconsentisinvalidiftheageofconsentisnotreached.Duringthisperiod,women’smovementalsoinvolvedmaternityleaveandabortion.Thesecondwavebeganinthe1960sandcontinuedintothe1990s.Thiswaveunfoldedinthecontextoftheanti-warandcivilrightsmovementsandthegrowingself-consciousnessofavarietyofminoritygroupsaroundtheworld.TheNewLeftwasontherise,andthevoiceofthesecondwavewasincreasinglyradical.Inthisphase,sexualityandreproductiverightsweredominantissues,andmuchofthemovement’senergywasfocusedonpassingtheEqualRightsAmendmenttotheConstitutionguaranteeingsocialequalityregardlessofsex.Feministsinthisperiodbelievedthatw
