theNormanssailedacrossthechannelfromnorthwesternFranceand
conqueredEngland.AftertheNormanConquest,noenemyeveragain

andsometimesincludingtheJutes,wereoriginallytribesofthe
Germanicpeoplewholivedinthenorthwestoftoday'sGermany.During

invadedandconqueredthesoutheasternpartofBritain,drivingthe
nativepeopleCeltsoutoftheirhomelandsandintothewesternand
northernmountainareas.Theybecamethenewmasteroftheland,which
theynamedEngland,meaning‘thelandoftheAngles'.

weredifferentgroupsofancientpeoplewhooriginallylivedinthe
uppervalleysoftheDanubeRiver.Later,theyspreadtoFrance,Spain,

CartahaslongbeenpopularlyregardedasthefoundationofEnglish
liberties,thespiritofitwasthelimitationofthepowersofthe
king.3.BlackDeath,thedeadlybubonicplague,sweptthroughEnglandinthe
summerof1348withoutwarningandwithoutanycure.Itkilledbetween
onehalfandonethirdofthepopulationofEngland.Theeconomic
