But have you ever thought about the history of the schoolbag? In the Han Dynasty (漢朝), students in old-style private schools used bamboo boxes to carry books to school. People consider the bamboo boxes to be the earliest schoolbags. They were usually two or three layers (層) in the box. Kids put different things like books, brushes, ink stones (硯) and paper in the boxes.Hundreds of years later, people developed a new kind of schoolbag called the budai, or the hip-pocket. The budai was lighter than the bamboo box. With the founding (成立) of the Peoples Republic of China, military rucksacks (軍用帆布包) became popular. Many people carried them when they were in school. Ask your grandparents or parents about these bags. Maybe they can tell you about their experiences of carrying them when they were in school.A new style of schoolbags has appeared in recent years. Many of them have colorful and fashionable designs (時尚的設計) on them, such as pictures of cartoons or pop stars. And they are more comfortable to use. So scientists were trying hard to find ways to make pictures that can move. They made lots of experiments, but failed again and again. It was Eadweard Muybridge who finally succeeded. He was the first photographer to try this successfully. But how did he make it? It was an interesting story.Back in 1872, people didnt know exactly(確切地) whether all four of a horses hooves(蹄) left the ground at the same time when it was running. A gentleman called Leland Stanford made a bet with his friend about it. Most people believed that a horse always had one hoof on the ground, or it would fall over. But Stanford didnt think so.At that time, it was hard to know who could win the bet, because a horses legs move so fast that it is impossible to tell just by looking. So they needed a way to record the movement of a running horse. Then Stanford offered $ 25,000 to the famous photographer, Muybridge, to help find the answer. In the beginning, Muybridge failed to get clear images, but he didnt give up. He continued to improve his cameras. In 1878, after many experiments, he managed to get a sequence(連續(xù)) of 12 photos. One of them clearly showed that all four of the horses hooves were off the ground at the same time. And when the photos moved fast, people could see a horse running.Though Edison is usually considered as the person who created the first movie in 1889, it was the work of Eadweard Muybridge and the bet that led to Edisons invention.(1)The underlined word static in Paragraph 1 most probably means .
