14、 the facades have columns(柱)carved into the rock, but they arefor decoration and they don 't actually hold anythingup.Petra was built inthe middle of the desert, where it hardlyeverrained. Luckily,theNabataeans were very skilled engineers and knew how to live in a hot and dry place. First, they
15、carved channels(渠)tobring water from a nearby spring into thecity.Rainwater wasalsocollected in underground channels. The water was then stored. So, evenin thelong dry monthsthere was enough water for people to use.Today, Petra is one of the world 's most famous ancient sites and people come fro

24、uise Ski Resort, Sunshine Village, and Mount Norquay combine to offer a large area for skiing, not to mention the backcountry trails available throughout the park.
