2、udingalargenumberofChineseexcellentstudents.Onthecontrary,Chinaasanancientcountrycivilizationwithoverfivethousandyears,onlyhaveseveralfamousuniversities.ThisessayaimstostudythecharacterofTheUnitedStatesuniversityeducationandfindoutthemeritofAmericanuniversity.Thentaketheessenceanddiscardthedregstoim

3、provethequalityofourowneducation.I.ComparisonbetweenAmericanandChineseuniversityeducation1.1teachingstyleInAmerican,almostallteacherslikesmall-classteaching,theybelievethatitwillletallthestudentshaveequalchaneetojoininclassdiscussions.Inaddition,theycanbefullyawareofeverystudentsabilitysothattheycaa

4、keappropriateplanforeveryone.Inclass,teachersbyaskingquestionsletstudentsthinkandimage.NomatterhowstudentsrespondifonlytheyhavetheirownAngleandviewpoint,theyarejustright.Teachersalsoencouragestudentstodiscussandraisequestionswhicharethesharperthebetter.HoweverinChina,studentshardlyeverparticipateinc

5、lassdiscussions.Theteachertellthemeverythingaboutthebook,andwhattheyshoulddoistowriteitdownandrememberit.Thereisanotheruniquephenomenonisthatthemasterpaymuchattentiontogoodstudentswhichresultinbadstudentsbecomeevenworsewhilegoodstudentsbecomeevenbetter.Evenstudenshavequestion,theyaretooshytoraisethe

6、irhands.Respectivelyspeaking,AmericanclassislivelywhileChineseclassisveryquiet.1.2ExamandhomeworkThereisnodoubtthatexamisthemosteffectiveandconvenientwaytocheckstudentsstudyingcondition.Domesticuniversityonlyhavetwoexams:themiddleandthefinnal.Nevertheless,inAmerican,theyhavemanyquizzesinasemester.Th

7、ereasonforthisistoforcestudentstolookupinformationandstudybythemselves.Moreover,theyhavemuchhomeworktodowhiletheyonlyhaveseveralclassesinaweek,forthemostpart,theyspendtheirtimeindoinghomework.Bycontrast,Chinesestudentshavesomuchleisuretimethattheycandoeverythingtheylike,suchasplaycomputergames,shopp

8、ing,playingbasketballandsoon.Ofcoursetherestillhavemanystudentsmakeeveryefforttostudying.ToAmericanstudents,memorizingisnecessary,butcreativityisthemostessential.Togetfullcreditisnotaeasything,andtheuniversitywillnotletthemeasilytogetthediploma.Soaboutahalfofthemcagraduatefromtheuniversity.InChina,m

9、oststudentscangettheirdiplomawhichdontneedthemtopaytoomuchsacrifice.1.3TargetInAmerican,everyuniversityhasitsreasonstoexist,nomatterhowsmallitis.Andeachuniversityknowswhattheirtargetis.Forexample,theeconomicinstituteofStanforduniversityhasthreegoalsforundergraduate.Thefirstisknowingallkindsofmoderns

10、ocialeconomicphenomenonthesecondismasteringtheskillsofanalysingeconomicproblems;thethirdisknowinghowtoevaluatepublicpolicy.ThereisnodoubtthenumberofuniversitiesinChinaisbecomingmoreandmore,butalmostnouniversityknowswhyitselfshouldbeestablishedandexist.JustbecauseChinahasalargepopulation,andonlyincre

11、asethenumberoftheuniversitiescanmanystudentsgototheuniversity.Inaddition,fhedevelopmentofChineseuniversitiesbehaveabitimpulsive,forexample,manyuniversitiesareseekingforcertainworldrankings”butoverlooktheformaldevelopmentofthemselves”(Educationisa,2012)Andmostofstudentschoosetogotouniversityistogetad

12、iplomawhichcanhelpthemfindajobeasily.II.Thereasonsforthedifferencesmentionedabove:2.1DifferenttraditionalcultureEducationisaculturalphenomenon,differenteducationresponsetoadifferentculture.Sowecanseetheculturaldiffereneeintheviewofcollegeeducation.(Educationisa,2012)Fromancienton,Chinesepeoplearealw

13、aysveryconservative,whichresultintheylackofspiritofadventureandinnovativeconsciousness.So,thestudentintheclassroomisnotveryactive.Bycontrast,Americaisanationofimmigrantswithashorthistory.Withtheinfluenceofmulticultureanddifferentvalues,itiseasyforthemtobeactive”(AComparativeStudy,2012)SoAmericanclas

15、ndajob.Forthisreason,studentsarestudyinghardinthehighschoolsothattheycanbeadmittedtoagooduniversity.Whentheyareintheuniversity,themajorityofthembelievetheydontneedtostudyhardagainfortheyknowtheycaneasilygetthediploma.ButinAmerican,approximatelyahalfofthemcangettheirdiplomas.Thereforetheyhavetostudyh
