He is one of the most famous scientists in the

2、 world partly because of his scientific discoveries and partly because of his physical disability. 2 Hawking was born in Oxford, England on January 8th, 1942. He went to school in a small city near London. After leaving school, Hawking first went to Oxford University where he studied physics and the

3、n went to Cambridge University where he studied cosmology. In 1965, he became a doctor of philosophy. 3 It was at the age of 20 that Hawking first noticed something was wrong with him. In 1963, he was diagnosed with motor neurone disease, an incurable illness. He was only 21 years old but was told h

4、e only had a short time to live. At first, Hawking became very depressed. Later, instead of giving up, he went on with his research. Victims of motor neurone disease cannot move and cannot speak but their brain may work perfectly. In Hawkings case it was discovered that he was a brilliant scientist.

5、 Moving in a wheelchair and speaking through a special computer, he has become the voice of science. Not did he let the disease stop him from living the kind of life he had always dreamt of. 4 Although Hawking is such a disabled man, he is best remembered for his work in the field of science. Stephe

6、n Hawking has spent his career at Cambridge University, where he became Professor of Physics in 1977. His work was in the area of cosmology and he wrote about black holes in space. His book A Brief History of Time was published in 1988 and is still a best-seller. Readers were pleased and surprised t

7、o find that a scientist could write about his work in a way that ordinary people could understand. 5 Stephen Hawking also travelled around the world to give lectures. In 2023, he visited China and spoke to university students in Hangzhou and Beijing. He told the students about his theories and thoug

8、hts on some of the greatest questions: What is time, how did the universe begin, and what exactly are black holes? People who listen to Hawkings lectures sometimes find it difficult to understand him, because his thoughts and ideas often seem as large as the universe he is trying to describe. The sp

9、eech computer is not the problem. In fact, people who hear it often say it sounds like a human voice. Hawking was happy with it, too. “The only trouble,” said Hawking, who is British, “is that it gives me an American accent.”6 On March 14, the British physicist passed away at his home in Cambridge,

10、England. “We have lost a great mind and a wonderful spirit,” Berners-Lee who invented the World Wide Web wrote. Stephen Hawking may no longer be with us, but he will continue to inspire the world for generations to come. As he once said himself, “Where there is life, there is hope.”教學(xué)設(shè)計一、Topic: Step

12、章屬于人物傳記類,簡要描述了物理學(xué)家霍金的一生。旨在讓學(xué)生熟悉人物傳記類的寫作手法,并充分感受和學(xué)習(xí)霍金身殘志堅的精神。五、Student analysis(學(xué)情分析):Fundamental state(基本情況):授課對象是有一年的高中英語學(xué)習(xí)的學(xué)生,他們已經(jīng)從初中順利過渡到高中,對于問題的思考逐漸趨于理性,能夠體會霍金不懼困難和永遠堅持的精神。Knowledge reserve(知識儲備):學(xué)生對于霍金了解不多,但卻知道這是一位非常具有代表性的科學(xué)家。宇宙探索這個話題和霍金本人身體的特殊性都引起了學(xué)生的好奇。而且在之前的閱讀課他們也已經(jīng)初步具備略讀、跳讀和細讀的能力,這些在學(xué)生畫思維導(dǎo)圖

13、的過程中都會有所體現(xiàn)。六、Teaching learning objectives(教學(xué)目標):經(jīng)過本課的學(xué)習(xí),學(xué)生能夠:1. 提取文章段落大意,梳理文章結(jié)構(gòu),歸納關(guān)于人物傳記的寫作特點;2. 通過不同的閱讀活動,基于自主學(xué)習(xí)與小組合作學(xué)習(xí),進一步細讀文章的具體信息,完成各自學(xué)習(xí)任務(wù),然后對文本從不同角度進行分析和深度解讀,最后能夠得到自己的思維導(dǎo)圖,并利用導(dǎo)圖對文本進行復(fù)述,實現(xiàn)語言能力的遷移。最后通過情景設(shè)置,運用所學(xué)知識完成一個show time,從而培養(yǎng)創(chuàng)新思維能力;3. 體會并思考人不懼困難,不斷堅持努力的精神,并能在自己今后的學(xué)習(xí)和生活中有所體現(xiàn)。七、Key and difficu
