In1997.theHumbleAdministrator'sGarden

Thegardencontainsnumerouspavilionsandbridgessetamongamazeofconnectedpoolsandislands.Itconsistsofthreemajorpartssetaboutalargelake:thecentralpart(theeasternpartandthewesterntheHumbleAdministrator'sGarden

Thegardeniswell-knownforitsartisticwayofdealingwiththespacesbetweenvariouskindsofarchitecturalform,withanareaof23,310sq.m.ConstructionoftheLingeringGardenbeganduringtheMingdynastybyXuTaishi,ahigh-rankingofficialinchargeoftheemperor’shorsesandvehicles.Likeotherfamousgardens,theLingeringGardenseekstocreatestunningnaturallandscapeswithinlimitedspacethelayoutoftheLingeringGardenAccordingtothestyleofthebuildings,thegardencangenerallybedividedintofourparts:thecentral,eastern,westernandnorthernpartsQingDynastyThemiddlepart:Themiddlepartofthegardeniscentereduponalakewithman-mademountaininthenorth-westandanumberofattractivebuildingsinthesouthwest.Theeasternpart:Finebuildingsoccupymostoftheeasternsection.TheCloud-CappedPeak,6.5-meter-high,isthehighestlimestoneintheclassicalgardensofsuzhou.Thenorthernpart:Thenorthernpartisnowabonsaigardeninwhichabout500valuablebonsaiareputondisplay.Thewesternpart:Thewesternpartofthegardensetsafineexampleofgood-lookingearthenhillsstuddedwithyellowstonesandcoveredwithmapletrees.Thereisawindingbrooklinedwithpeachtreesandweepingwillows.theLionForestGarden

TheLionGroveGarden,coveringanareaofabout10,000squaremeters,isrightneartheHumbleAdministrator'sGarden.Itwasbuiltin1342duringtheYuanDynasty.LionGroveGardenisanidealsightseeingsiteasithasrichlyornamentalpavilionsandtowersindifferentstyles,eachhasitsownhistoryandstorytheCanglangPavilion

Celebratedforthedelightsofthewildernessofmountainandforestscenery,theCanglangPavilionistheoldestamongtheexistingclassicalgardensofSuzhou

OnthewholethepresentgardenoftheCanglangPavilionstillkeepsthestyleoftheSong.Itfeaturesarangeofman-mademoutainsinsidethegardenandwaterscapesoutside.Proceedingpastthepureexpanseofwateroverazigzagbridgeofstoneandthroughtheentrance,onecomestothegardenandcatchessightofman-mademountaincoveredwithage-oldtreesandbamboo,runningfromeasttowestSummerPalace,anImperialGardeninBeijingTheSummerPalaceinBeijing–firstbuiltin1750,largelydestroyedinthewarof1860andrestoredonitsoriginalfoundationsin1886–isamasterpieceofChineselandscapegardendesign.Thenaturallandscapeofhillsandopenwateriscombinedwithartificialfeaturessuchaspavilions,halls,palaces,templesandbridgestoformaharmoniousensembleofoutstandingaestheticvalue.TheSummerPalaceinBeijingintegratesnumeroustraditionalhallsandpavilionsintotheImperialGardenconceivedbytheQingemperorQianlongbetween1750and1764astheGardenofClearRipples.UsingKunmingLake,theformerreservoiroftheYuandynasty’scapitalandLongevityHillasthebasicframework,theSummerPalacecombinedpoliticalandadministrative,residential,spiritual,andrecreationalfunctionswithinalandscapeoflakesandmountains,inaccordancewiththeChinesephilosophyofbalancingtheworksofmanwithnature.

DestroyedduringtheSecondOpiumWarofthe1850s,itwasreconstructedbyEmperorGuangxuforusebyEmpressDowagerCixiandrenamedtheSummerPalace.AlthoughdamagedagainduringtheBoxerRebellionin1900itwasrestoredandhasbeenapublicparksince1924.ThecentralfeatureoftheAdministrativearea,theHallofBenevolenceandLongevityisapproachedthroughthemonumentalEastPalaceGate.TheconnectingResidentialareacomprisesthreebuildingcomplexes:theHallsofHappinessinLongevity,JadeRipplesandYiyun,allbuiltupagainsttheHillofLongevity,withfineviewsoverthelake.ThesearelinkedbyroofedcorridorswhichconnecttotheGreatStagetotheeastandtheLongCorridortotheWest.InfrontoftheHallofHappinessinLongevityawoodenquaygaveaccessbywaterfortheImperialfamilytotheirquarters.

Theremaining90%ofthegardenprovidesareasforenjoyingviewsandspiritualcontemplationandisembellishedwithgardenbuildingsincludingtheToweroftheFragranceofBuddha,theToweroftheRevolvingArchive,WuFangPavilion,theBaoyunBronzePavilion,andtheHallthatDispelstheClouds.KunmingLakecontainsthreelargeislands,correspondingtothetraditionalChinesesymbolicmountaingardenelement,thesouthernofwhichislinkedtotheEastDikebytheSeventeenArchBridge.Pleasuretothenorth-east.AnessentialfeatureistheWestDikewithsixbridgesindifferentstylesalongitslength.OtherimportantfeaturesincludetemplesandmonasteriesinHanandTibetanstylelocatedonthenorthside
