ArecentdiscoverythatNoakescallsthe“l(fā)acticacidparadox”madehimstartresearchingthisareaseriously.Lacticacidisaby-productofexercise,andtheincreaseofitisoftenmentionedasacauseoftiredness.Butwhenresearchsubjectsexerciseincertainconditionscreatedartificially,theybecometiredeventhoughlacticacidlevelsremainlow.Norhastheoxygencontentoftheirbloodfallentoolowforthemtokeepgoing.Obviously,somethingelsewasmakingthemtirebeforetheyhiteitherofthesephysiologicallimits.
