TheEuropeansituationEuropeistheworld'ssecond-smallestcontinentbysurfacearea,coveringabout10,180,000squarekilometres(3,930,000sqmi)or2%oftheEarth'ssurfaceandabout6.8%ofitslandarea.OfEurope'sapproximately50states,Russiaisthelargestbybothareaandpopulation,whiletheVaticanCityisthesmallest.EuropeisthethirdmostpopulouscontinentafterAsiaandAfrica,withapopulationof731millionorabout11%oftheworld'spopulation;however,accordingtotheUnitedNations(mediumestimate),Europe'ssharemayfalltoabout7%in2050.
