kids,they’remostlikelytoanswerwithpro-skateboarder,surferorminecraftplayer.iaskedmylittlebrother,andhesaid,seriouslydude,i’m10,ihavenoidea,probablyapro-skier,let’sgogetsomeicecream.

see,uskidsaregoingtoanswersomethingwe’restokedon,whatwethinkiscool,whatwehaveexperiencewith,andthat’stypicallytheoppositeofwhatadultswanttohear.

butifyouaskalittlekid,sometimesyou’llgetthebestanswer,somethingsosimple,soobviousandreallyprofound.whenigrowup,iwanttobehappy.

forme,whenigrowup,iwanttocontinuetobehappylikeiamnow.i’mstokedtobehereattedex,imean,i’vebeenwatchingtedvideosforaslongasicanremember,butineverthoughti’dmakeitonthestageheresosoon.imean,ijustbecameateenager,andlikemostteenageboys,ispendmostofmytimewondering,howdidmyroomgetsomessyallonitsown.

butwhatbumsmeoutistoknowthat,alotofkidstodayarejustwishingtobehappy,tobehealthy,tobesafe,notbullied,andbelovedforwhotheyare.soitseemstomewhenadultssay,whatdoyouwanttobewhenyougrowup?theyjustassumethatyou’llautomaticallybehappyandhealthy.

well,maybethat’snotthecase,gotoschool,gotocollege,getajob,getmarried,boom,thenyou’llbehappy,right?youdon’tseemtomakelearninghowtobehappyandhealthyapriorityinourschools,it’sseparatefromschools.andforsomekids,itdoesn’texistsatall?butwhatifwedidn’tmakeitseparate?whatifwebasededucationonthestudyandpracticeofbeinghappyandhealthy,becausethat’swhatitis,apractice,andasimplepracticeatthat?

educationisimportant,butwhyisbeinghappyandhealthynotconsiderededucation,ijustdon’tgetit.soi’vebeenstudyingthescienceofbeinghappyandhealthy.itreallycomesdowntopracticingtheseeightthings.exercise,dietandnutrition,timeinnature,contribution,servicetoothers,relationships,recreation,relaxationandstressmanagement,andreligiousorspiritualinvolvement,yes,gotthatone.
