Temple石寶寨第45頁/共50頁但大壩所帶來的一些負面影響也是巨大的，從長遠來看，他的影響甚至超過了它的益處。認為三峽項目的社會和生態(tài)成本過高。三峽水庫淹沒了古老的城市和文化遺產，還迫使庫區(qū)農民搬遷到人口更加密集的沿江坡地上，他們一方面要靠著比以前更少的土地勉強維生，一方面還要面臨日益加重的土地侵蝕和塌方事故的致命威脅。而且?guī)靺^(qū)搬遷居民的安置工作也被指責普遍存在腐敗官員盜用移民安置款的現象。水污染問題十分嚴重。由于江水被大壩阻攔，農業(yè)殘留物、生活及工業(yè)污染物無法順流而下排入大海，而是倒灌回水庫，使得庫區(qū)水體的污染不斷加重，并導致庫區(qū)的長江支流出現“水華”現象。雖然政府部門說建了很多污水處理廠，但實際上許多污水處理廠并未與城市污水系統(tǒng)相連通。泥沙淤積也是一個令工程師頭疼的問題。長江每年要攜帶5億立方米的泥沙進入三峽，但其中大部分都無法排出去，水庫因此將出現淤塞，三峽大壩進而有可能垮塌。工程師在大壩底部設計了23道閘門用于在汛期沖走泥沙。據他們估計，該系統(tǒng)可保證三峽水庫在今后一個世紀維持90%甚至更高的庫容。但事實是泥沙淤積的速度高過了蓄水；大壩兩側山體嚴重滑坡，大量泥沙淤積于大壩內，大壩的蓄水能力與日劇減，抗洪能力也變成了笑話，下游數千萬人危
