Andwhenyoucomehome,weintendtomakesurethatweserveyouaswellasyou’reservingAmerica.We’realsogratefulfortheAmericanswhoaretakingtimeoutoftheirholidaytoserveinsoupkitchensandshelters（避難所，防空洞）,makingsuretheirneighborshaveahotmealandaplacetostay.Thissenseofmutual（相互的）responsibility–theideathatIammybrother’skeeper;thatIammysister’skeeper–hasalwaysbeenapartofwhatmakesourcountryspecial.Andit’soneofthereasonstheThanksgivingtraditionhasendured.TheveryfirstThanksgivingwasacelebration（慶祝）ofcommunityduringatimeofgreathardship,andwehavefollowedthatexampleeversince.Evenwhenthefateofourunionwasfarfromcertain–duringaCivilWar,twoWorldWars,aGreatDepression–Americansdrewstrengthfromeachother.Theyhadfaiththattomorrowwouldbebetterthantoday.

We’regratefulthattheydid.Aswegatheraroundthetable,wepausetorememberthepilgrims（朝圣者）,pioneers（開拓者）,andpatriots（愛國者）whohelpedmakethiscountrywhatitis.Theyfacedimpossibleodds,andyetsomehow,theypersevered（堅(jiān)持）.Today,it’sourturn.Iknowthatformanyofyou,thisThanksgivingismoredifficultthanmost.Butnomatterhowtoughthingsarerightnow,westillgivethanksforthatmostAmericanofblessings,thechancetodetermineourowndestiny.Theproblemswefacedidn’tdevelopovernight,andwewon’tsolvethemovernight.Butwewillsolvethem.Allittakesisforeachofustodoourpart.

Withallthepartisanship（政黨偏見）andgridlock（僵局）hereinWashington,it’seasytowonderifsuchunity（團(tuán)結(jié)）isreallypossible.Butthinkaboutwhat’shappeningatthisverymoment:Americansfromallwalksoflife（各行各業(yè)）arecomingtogetherasonepeople,gratefulfortheblessingsoffamily,community,andcountry.Ifwekeepthatspiritalive,ifwesupporteachother,andlookoutforeachother,andrememberthatwe’reallinthistogether,thenIknowthatwetoowillovercomethechallengesofourtime.Sotoday,I’mthankfultoserveasyourPresidentandCommander-and-Chief.I’mthankfulthatmydaughtersgettogrowupinthisgreatcountryofours.AndI’mthankfulforthechancetodomypart,astogether,wemaketomorrowbetterthantoday.Thanks,andhaveawonderfulThanksgiving.BBC
