啃老族的英文作文“啃老族〞是當今緊張而忙碌生活的產(chǎn)物。有這樣一個句子:這個啃老族已經(jīng)30歲了,但仍然依靠他的父母生活。有人是這樣翻譯的:

ThisNeetisalready30yearsoldbutstilllivesonhisparents.

其實嚴格地說,liveon后面要跟sth,不跟sb;而liveoff后面可以跟sb或sth,意思分別是“靠什么人養(yǎng)活〞和“靠什么活著〞,目前還沒有“l(fā)iveonsb〞的搭配。例如:Theyliveonadietofbreadandcheese.〔他們靠吃面包和奶酪活著?!砊hisunemployedworkerlivesonunemploymentbenefit.〔這個失業(yè)工人靠失業(yè)救濟金為生?!?/p>

“啃老族〞指既沒有上學也沒有就業(yè)或接受職業(yè)技能培訓但必須依靠父母養(yǎng)活的青年人。在英國英語中,“NEET〞指啃老族的一員,“NEETgroup〞指啃老族群體?!癗EET〞是“NotCurrentlyEngagedinEducation,EmploymentorTraining〞或“NotinEducation,EmploymentorTraining〞的縮略語。美國英語那么稱之為“boomerangchild/kid〞。

Boomerang原指澳大利亞土著居民的飛鏢。

例如:Aninvestigationindicatesthatabout70%oftheunemployedyoungpeopleinourcountrynowliveofftheirparents,thusbecomingNeets.〔調(diào)查顯示,我國目前約七成失業(yè)青年靠父母養(yǎng)活,因而成為啃老族?!?/p>

Theboomerangchildphenomenonhasbecomeasocialproblemonanationwidescale.〔啃老族現(xiàn)象已成為全國性的社會問題?!?/p>

如果把“啃老族〞翻譯為adultdependentchild是不妥的?!癮dultdependentchild〞的意思是“有心理缺陷或生理缺陷的需要撫養(yǎng)的成年子女〞,比“啃老族〞含義要寬泛。

例如:Anadultdependentchildisonewhoisincapableofself-carebecauseofamentalorphysicaldisability.〔一個需要撫養(yǎng)的成年子女是因為心理缺陷或生理缺陷而不能自理的人?!?/p>

所以開頭的那句話應該翻譯為:

ZhengRuoling,aprofessorofeducationatXiamen“Inthisjobmarket,graduatesshouldtakeanythingtheycanget.Evenanunsatisfyingjobisbetterthanwastingtimeathome,〞shesaid.“There'snothingwrongwithstartingatthebottom,〞sheadded.GovernmenttomissNEETtargetThegovernmentissettomissitstargetforreducingthenumberofyoungpeoplenotineducation,employmentortraining(Neet),itisclaimed.England'stargetfor2023is7.6%-asanaveragefortheyear.FiguresoutonThursdaysuggested9.3%wereNeetattheendof2023.AsNeetlevelsarehigherinthesummerthanthewinter,theUCUlecturersunionarguesthetargetwillbemissed.Thegovernmentsaidthe2023figureswouldnotbepublisheduntilJune2023.TheUCUsaidalthoughNeetlevelsfellsharplyinthelastquarterof2023,thetrendinrecentyearsisforthepercentagetoriseinthefirstthreequartersoftheyear.However,the2023figurewillnotbepublisheduntilJune2023.'Obstacles'One18-year-oldwhoattendedaneventrunbytheorganisationthisweek,ShamayalYakoob,fromBirmingham,said:"Ihavetriedtogetintocollegemanytimes,butmynameisjustputdownonthewaitinglist."ThecollegeswhichdoofferspacesareontheothersideofthecityandIcannotaffordtopaythetravelcosts."IhavetriedtolookforjobsbutwithoutanyqualificationsandskillsIamnotgettinganywhereandit'sjustlikebangingmyheadagainstthewall."DianeJohnson,21,fromPontefractinWestYorkshire,saidshewouldliketostudyatcollegebutthatitwasreallyhardtofindacourse.'Raisingskills'"BecauseIamover19theycostloadsofmoneyandIwasforcedtodropoutbecausethefundingIneededwasdelayedbytwomonths."Politiciansneedtostartlisteningortherewillbemorepeoplefacingthesameobstaclesasme."MsHuntadded:"Onehugestepwouldbetosimplifythejungleoffundingstreamsforcourses.Anotherwouldbetoreverseplanneddamagingcutsforcolleges."SkillsministerIainWrightsaid:"Whilsttherearesignsthattheproportionof16-18yearoldsNeetisfalling,weknowweneedtokeepworkinghardtobackyoungpeoplethroughthesethoughtimes."Wearecommittedtoraisingyoungpeople'sskilllevelsandbuildingayoung,skilfulanddynamicworkforcethroughouttheeconomicrecovery."Thatiswhyweareofferingevery16and17-year-oldtheopportunitytocontinueineducationortrainingthroughourSeptemberGuaranteeforschoolleavers-andrecordnumbersaredoingso,helpingtofulfiltheirpotentialandsecurethefutureofoureconomy."“老吾老以及人之老,幼吾幼以及人之幼〞,這是中華民族的優(yōu)良傳統(tǒng)。據(jù)中國老年促進會公布的調(diào)查數(shù)據(jù)說明,我國65%以上的家庭存在著“老養(yǎng)小〞的現(xiàn)象,有30%左右成年人被老年人養(yǎng)著?!靶▲B〞在心安理得“傍老〞,成年了,還要當小鳥“傍老〞嗎?牽就是依賴的禍根居住在忻州市康樂小區(qū)35歲的小陳,至今單身還與父母住在一起。他的生活單調(diào),每天睡到中午才起床,等父母把飯做好吃飽后,就到小區(qū)附近遛彎,吃完晚飯就去網(wǎng)吧聊天,直到半夜才回家睡覺。小陳的父親為此傷透了腦筋,他一臉愁容地對筆者介紹:孩子從小嬌生慣養(yǎng),不好好學習,上到初中畢業(yè)就輟學了,想方設法讓他上了個技校,結(jié)果畢業(yè)找了幾次工作也沒有如意的,不是嫌活太累,就是嫌工作太辛苦。事情就這么一直拖著,也沒個著落。現(xiàn)在,小陳不知怎么心態(tài)變了,性格也內(nèi)向起來,成天呆在家里白吃白喝,沒錢花就問父母要。去年從省城某大學畢業(yè)的小何,所學專業(yè)是人力資源管理,可他至今也未找到一份穩(wěn)定的工作。小何在家待業(yè)期間,先后去過上海、杭州、南京、西安等地尋找就業(yè)時機,結(jié)果一直沒有找到適合的工作,沒方法只好打道回府,和父母一起坐在家里等“天上掉餡餅〞。在忻州市人才交流中心為自己女兒奔波了好幾天的趙女士和筆者閑聊起來:“我和愛人屬于晚婚晚育型,所以有了孩子后,就加倍地呵護,從小到大,什么事情都不讓她操心,什么事情都不讓她管,就希望她能夠快樂成長。可是現(xiàn)在女兒長大了,學業(yè)也完成了,卻變成了懶惰、不自立的人,20多歲的人了什么都不會干。女兒大學畢業(yè),一直沒有找到適宜的工作,如今的她是衣來伸手、飯來張口,而且動不動就支使我們。我們也是快50歲的人了,女兒這個樣很讓人操心。我和老伴商量,不能讓她這樣下去,所以想找一份能夠磨煉人的工作,讓女兒知道什么事情都得從一點一滴開始做起。〞被“啃〞老人的無奈現(xiàn)年65歲的李大媽寒心地說:“我的兩個兒子都不爭氣!大兒子自從下崗后就一直呆在家里,整天無所事事,要么到外面下棋,要么就是回到家里看電視,一沒有錢了就向我和老伴伸手,要錢的時候就喜眉喜眼,不給錢時就說小的時候沒有好好教育他,現(xiàn)在工作丟了,我們就應該養(yǎng)活他。說實話,家里的經(jīng)濟來源只能靠我和老伴的退休金。小兒子大學畢業(yè)和朋友合伙做生意,向親戚朋友東拼西湊,借了5萬元給了小兒子,可哪里知道,一個月時間就把5萬元血本全都賠進去了。〞無奈之下,她和老伴決定把居住60平方米的房子賣掉,一局部錢給小兒子還債,剩下的錢給大兒子貼補家用。我們老人靠退休金也夠過了,聽說市里的和平西街民政福利小區(qū)開辦了老年公寓,實在不行干脆拿著退休金到那里去養(yǎng)老。家住繁峙縣杏園鄉(xiāng)的老居,年紀已經(jīng)40多歲了,老父親幫他把房子蓋起來后,他卻把老人趕出門,老人沒方法只好寄居在城里的女兒家。這還不算,兒子還把老人一輩子辛辛苦苦積攢下來鎖在柜子的5000多元錢撬開取出花了。83歲的老人氣得告訴筆者:“我這是哪輩子缺了德啦?怎么生了這么個逆子,把我的養(yǎng)老錢也給花了!〞孝敬是兒女的天職有專家認為,作為父母一切為兒女著想、百般滿足他們的需要,在一定程度上就助長了兒女無休止索取和無義務、無責任感的依賴心理及自私觀念。現(xiàn)階段我國60歲以上的老年人口已達1.45億人,近10個人中就有1個老年人,今后每年還將以3.3%的速度增長。預計到2050年,老年人口將到達4.2億人!一個“銀色浪潮〞的時代已經(jīng)到來。同時,隨著上世紀70年代的獨生子女逐漸承當養(yǎng)老任務,一對夫婦要照料4個老人和1個小孩,家庭養(yǎng)老將面臨越來越多的困難。但“啃老族〞現(xiàn)象的存在,一直是令人憂思的話題。如此而言,解決“啃老族〞的問題,除在就業(yè)方面社會有關(guān)部門給予必要的幫助外,更重要的是那些已步人成年還“傍老〞的人,首先應摒棄長期依賴老人的思想,中國有句古話:羊有跪乳之恩,鴉有反哺之義,更何況人乎?如果做兒女的都能懂得這個淺顯的道理,那么自然就應該知道自己不僅要承當起家庭的責任,還應具有孝敬老人的義務。否那么,將會受到自己良心及社會的譴責。宮殿煜田瑜有調(diào)查資料顯示,目前“啃老族〞主要有以下人群:一是大學畢業(yè)生,由于就業(yè)比擬挑剔,總找不到自己滿意的工作,這一類約占20%;二是以工作太累太緊張、不適應為由自動離崗離職的,占10%左右;三是“創(chuàng)業(yè)夢想型〞的青年人,他們雖有強烈的創(chuàng)業(yè)愿望,但沒有目標,缺乏真才實學,總是不成功又不愿“寄人籬下〞當個打工者,這一類約占20%;四是頻繁跳槽者,跳來跳去最后找不到工作,這一類占10%;五是單位里下崗的年輕人,習慣用過去輕松的工作與如今的緊張繁忙相比照,越比越不如意,干脆不就業(yè),這一類占10%左右;最后一類是文化低、技能差,只能在勞動力市場上找苦臟累工作,因怕苦怕累索性躺在家中“啃〞父母,這一類占30%。Whataridiculousbutthought-provokingcartoonitis!Ayoungmanwholookslikeacollegegraduteisstretchinghishandandaskinghisparentsformoneys,treatingthemasATMs.Aninvestigationindicatesthatnolessthan70%oftheunemployedyoungpeoplenowliveofftheirparents'income.Thisisthenewwaytheyoungstersarelivingtheirlives--notineducation,employment,ortraining.

Whataccountsforthiswidespreadphenomenon?Foronething,mostparentsarewillingtosacrificethemselvesbecauseofthedeeplovefortheirchildren.Unfortunatelytheyneglecttofostertheiroffspring'sindependencesothattheirchildrenareaccustomedtolivingunderthesponsorshipoftheirparents.Inaddition,withtheemploymentsituationbecomingincreasinglysevertheyoungsterscanhardlygetwell-paidjobs.Admittedly,thisproblem,whichresultsfromchangingtimes,shouldbecopedwithimmediatelyandappropriately.Aboveall,teenagersmustrealizethatlivingoffparentsaftergraduationisawayoflifewhichtheyoughttobeashamedof.Infact,itismoretotheirdisadvantageinthelongrun.Furthermore,asocietyshouldnotonlycreatanexcellentatmosphereof"respectinglabor",butalsoestablishgoodemploymentchannelsforgraduates.Animageshowstheword"NEET".Morethanonein10teenagershasbeenleftwithoutajoborcollegeplace,despite11yearsofcompulsoryeducation,figuresshow.Morethanonein10UKteenagershasbeenleftwithoutajoborcollegeplace,despite11yearsofcompulsoryeducation,figuresshow.Thenumberof16-to18-year-oldsbrandedas“Neet〞–notineducation,employmentortraining–hasrisenamidgrowingfearsthatschool-leaversarebearingthebruntofjobshortagesintherecession.Some261,000youngpeoplehadnojobortrainingplace,accordingtoofficialdata.Thefigureroseto1,082,000among16-to24-year-olds.TheConservativesbrandedthefigures“shocking〞.DavidWilletts,theshadowskillssecretary,said:"ItisadamningindictmentoftheGovernment'sfailuretohelpyoungpeopleduringtherecession.“DespiteallGordonBrown'sguaranteesandpledges,thenumberofyoungpeopleneitherearningnorlearningisincreasingatarateofmorethan9,000aweek.Ministersmuststopmakingemptygesturesthatdosolittletohelpyoungpeople.〞TheGovernmenthasatargettoreducetheproportionofyoungNeetsto7.6percentbynextyear.ThelatestannualdatafromtheDepartmentforChildren,SchoolsandFamiliesputthefigureat10.3percentbytheendof2023.Thepercentageof16to18-year-oldswhofallintothesamebracketremainedhigherinthepastyearthanintheprevious12months,itwasrevealed.Inafurtherdisclosure,figuresforthethirdquarterofthisyearshowalmostafifthof16to24-year-oldswereinthecategory–morethanatanypointsince2005.IainWright,theSchoolsMinister,said:"Wearegivingall16and17-year-oldstheopportunitytostayineducationortrainingsotheycangaintheskillstheyneedtosucceedinanincreasinglycompetitivelabourmarket."Wemustnotrepeatthemistakesthatweremadeinrecessionsofthepastandabandonawholegenerationofyoungpeople.Werecognisethatweneedtocarryonhelpingyoungpeoplethroughthistougheconomicclimate."HesaidtheGovernmentwouldoffereveryNeet16and17-year-oldaplaceonan“EntrytoEmployment〞courseinJanuary.(ReadbyGuannyLiu.GuannyLiuisamultimediajournalistattheChinaDailyWebsite.)啃老族〞指既沒有上學也沒
