HuanshantouNationalForestPark

Auniquescenicmountainwitha100-mileplainlocatedontheborderbetweentheNorthofHunanProvinceandtheSouthofHubeiProvince,HuangshantouNationalForestParkinAn’xiangCountyconnectsone-thousand-mileJianghanPlainandtheDongtingLake.Ithasanareaof8,600hectaresandapopulationof48,000.Itis60kmfromYueyangTowertotheEast,120kmfromTaohuayuantotheSouth,120kmfromZhangjiajietotheWest,and70kmfromJinzhouCity(inHubeiProvince)totheNorth.ItisoneofthefirstNationalForestParksratifiedbytheStateForestryAdministrationin1992.

HuangshantouNationalForestParkenjoysconvenienttransportationlinks,90kmfrombothChangdeRailwayStationandAirport,70kmfromJingzhouAirport,160kmfromChangsha,thecapitalcityofHunanProvinceand170kmfromWuhan,thecapitalcityofHubeiProvince.

Itboastsbothbeautifulnaturallandscapesandhistoricalrelics.Itisaharmoniouscombinationofgreenmountains,clearwater,uniquestonesandvarioustrees.LiuHongTombislocatedthereandincludesartifactsfromaseven-thousand-year-oldcivilisation.Discoveredin1991,itisdescribedas“OneoftheTenMajorArchaeologicalDiscoveriesofChina”.TherearecalligraphieswrittenbygreathistoricalnamesincludingLiuZongyuan,theHuiEmperorintheSongDynasty,LiuYuxi,PanXiangandDuanHonggu.Itranks52ndoutof72Buddhism’smost‘BlessedLands’,andenjoystheperennialincenseheydaythroughtheages.ScatteredancientmonasteriesandtempleslikeZhongjiTemple,NanchanTemple,YunluPalace,BailianMonasteryandtheTempleofGeneralFuboetc.,havebeenthe‘HolyLand’fordevoutBuddhistsbothathomeandabroad.Inaddition,thereisthebiggestnationalwaterconservancyproject,andaMemorialParkdevotedtotheearlyyearsofthePeople’sRepublicofChina.Itattractedgreatpeople,includingMaoZedong,ZhouEnlai,LiXiannian,SongQinglingandthefamousscholarYuSha,towriteinscriptionsandarticlesforit.

Therearefivesceniczones,48scenicspotsand3ecclesiasticalbuildingsincludingZhongjiTemple,NanchanTempleandYunluPalace.Thesceniczonesrevealuniquecustoms,habitsandbuildingtypes.Accordingtosurveys,thereare166speciesofarborsandshrubs,whicharesubordinatedto45familiesand72genera.TheparkwasatonetimetherevolutionarybaseforMarshalsHeLongandPengDehuai.Now,itisatouristandleisurecentreforapopulationof300,000insurroundingareasandaimsatconstructinganationalAAAAtourismresort.

ChengtoushanCulturalRelics

ChengtoushanCulturalRelicsstandsinChengtoushanVillageofChexiTownofLixianCounty,animportantcountyonthepassagefromNorthwestHunantoHubei,Sichuan,andGuizhou.Itisinternationallywell-knownas“TheFirstAncientCityinChina”.From1991to2001,theHunanArchaeologicalResearchInstitutedug11timesanddiscoveredanarchaeologicalareaof7,000squarekilometersandunearthedmorethan1,600artifacts.Accordingtotheresearchofexperts,itistheearliestandbest-preservedancientcityinChina.Itwastwiceawardedthetitleof“OneoftheTenMajorArchaeologicalDiscoveriesofChina”in1992and1997.On25thMarch1995,theformerSecretaryGeneralJiangZemininscribedforit“ChengtoushanCulturalRelics”.In1996,theStateCouncilannouncedittobea“KeyNationalCulturalRelicsProtectionUnit”.Withitsadvantageouslocationandsplendidculture,itwillcombineThreeGorgesandZhangjiajietoforma“cultural-natural”goldentourismroute.

Itisabout10kmawayfromLixianCounty,70kmfromChangdeRailwayStation,and90kmfromTaohuayuanAirport.ItisneartoProvincialHighwayS302(only0.5km)andisonly8kmfromtheNationalHighwayG207.ItfacesWulingyuantotheWest(only170km)andtheThreeGorges(only200km)totheNorth,withhigh-qualityroadsconnectingthem.

JiashanMountainNationalForestPark

JiashanMountainislocatedatthesouthernridgeofShimen’sHupingMountain,andisthehighestmountaininHunanProvince.Itcoversanareaof1,530hectaresanditssurroundingsincludeShanbanVillage,LinliCountytotheSoutheast,JiashanVillagetotheSouthwest,ErduVillagetotheNorth,andLiRiverwhichconnectswiththeDongtingLaketotheNortheast.ItisaresortwithattractionslikeLiZichengMausoleum,variousBuddhisttemples,theplacewhereteaceremonyoriginated.In1993,itwasestablishedasanationalforestpark;in1994,itwasofficiallyacknowledgedasaModelofNationalForestParks;in2001,itgainednationalAAAtouristscenicspotstatus.Ithasforestcoverageof93.6%.Withfertilelandandawarmclimate,itisrichindifferentplants,including204kindsofplantspeciesandmorethan20kindsoftreesforsightseeing.Withinthispark,therearemanyraretreesunderstateprotection,suchasdavidia,liriodendronandotherpreciousspecies,and18oldtreeswhichareamongtheprotectionofancienttreeslist.IntheparkcanalsobefoundtheLiZichengMausoleum,LingquanZenTemple,XimoPool(ink-washingpool),YuxiWell(imperialjadesealwell),BiyanFountain(GreenStoneFountain),BuildingofBuddha’sGlory,CemeteryofFamousPeopleincludingtheLingquanZenTemple,andtheholylandofBuddhismwhichhasahistoryofmorethan1,130yearsandhasbeenrenovatedbydifferentemperorsfromthreedifferentdynasties.DuringthelateMingandtheearlyQingDynasty,LiZicheng,theleaderofthepeasantuprising,retreatedheretoliveafterdefeat.Thankstoitsprofoundculturalartifacts,andbeautifullandscapes,itisawonderfulresortforpeopleinsurroundingareas.

ShimenCountyenjoysconvenienttransportationlinks.ProvincialHighwaysNo.1829,1836and1848runthroughthecounty.Itisonly25kmawayfromNationalHighway207and98kmfromChangde.TheJiaozuo-Liuzhou,Xiangfan-Shimen,andShimen-ChangshaRailwaysallrunthroughthecountywiththreerailwaystations,namely,Shimen,ShimenSouth,andShimenNorthStations.ShimenCountyhasanadvancednetworkofroadstoreachnearlyeveryvillageinthecountry.

AttheSourceofPeachBlossomCreek

InthereignofTaiyuanoftheJinDynasty,therewasamanfromWulingwhowasafishermanbytrade.Onedayhewasfishingfromhisboatinastream,heedlessofhowfarhehadgone,whenhesuddenlycameuponaforestofpeachtrees.Oneitherbankforseveralhundredyardstherewerenootherkindsoftrees.Thefragrantgrasswasbeautifultolookat,allpatternedwithfallenblossoms.Thefishermanwasextremelysurprisedandwentonfurther,determinedtogettotheendofthiswood.Hefoundthesourceofthestreamandthefootofacliffattheendofthewood,wheretherewasasmallcaveinwhichthereseemedtobeafaintlight.Helefthisboatandwentinthroughthemouthofthecave.Atfirstitwasverynarrow,onlywideenoughforaman,butafterfortyorfiftyyardshesuddenlyfoundhimselfintheopen.Theplacehehadcometowaslevelandspacious.Therewerehousesandcottagesarrangedinaplannedorder;therewerefinefieldsandbeautifulpools;thereweremulberrytrees,bamboogroves,andmanyotherkindsoftreesaswell.Therewereraisedpathwaysaroundthefields;andheheardfowlscrowinganddogsbarking.Goingtoandfroinallthis,andbusiedinworkingandplanting,werepeople,bothmenandwomen.Theirdresswasnotunlikethatofpeopleoutside,andallofthem,whetheroldpeoplewithwhitehairorchildrenwiththeirhairtiedinaknot,werehappyandcontentwiththemselves.Seeingthefisherman,theywereamazedandaskedhimwherehehadcomefrom.Heansweredalltheirquestions,andthentheyinvitedhimtotheirhomes,wheretheyputwinebeforehim,killedchickensandpreparedfoodinhishonour.Whentheotherpeopleinthevillageheardaboutthevisitor,theytooallcametoaskquestions.TheytoldhimthattheirancestorshadescapedfromthewarsandconfusioninthetimeoftheQinDynasty.Bringingtheirwivesandchildren,allthepeopleoftheirareahadreachedthisisolatedplace,andhadstayedeversince.Thustheyhadlostallcontactwiththeoutsideworld.Theyaskedwhatdynastyitwasnow.TheyhadneverheardoftheHan,letalonetheWeiandtheJin.Pointbypointthefishermanexplainedallhecouldoftheworldthatheknew,andtheyallsighedindeepsorrow.Afterwardsalltherestinvitedhimtotheirhomes,andallfeastedhimwithwineandfood.Hestayedthereseveraldaysandthenbadethemgoodbye;beforehedepartedthesepeoplesaidtohim,“Neverspeaktoanyoneoutsideaboutthis!”So,hewentout,foundhisboatandwentbackbythesamerouteashehadcome,leavingmarksallalongtheway.Whenhegottotheprovincialtownhecalledontheprefectandtoldhimallabouthisexperience.Theprefectatoncesentmentogowithhimandfollowthemarkshehadleft,buttheybecamecompletelyconfusedoverthemarksandneverfoundtheplace.LiuZiji,ascholarofhighreputationfromNanyang,heardofthisandenthusiasticallyofferedtogooutwiththefishermantotryagain,buthefellillanddiedbeforerealisinghisplan.Afterthat,noonewenttolookforthewayagain.

XidongtingWetlandPublicdate:2010-07-05

XidongtingWetlandislocatedintheeasternpartofHanshouCounty,HunanProvince.Itcoversanareaof35,680hectaresanditistheentrancetotheDongtingLake,China’ssecondlargestfreshwaterlake.ItisthebridgeheadofthegoldentouristrouteofChangsha-Zhangjiajie,onlyahundredkilometerseastofChangsha,40kmwestofChangde,andabouttwo-hoursdrivefromZhangjiajie.In1998,asapprovedbytheHunanProvincialGovernment,itwasestablishedasaprovincialnaturereserve.In2002,itwasincludedbyUNESCOonthe“Listof30WetlandsofInternationalImportance”.In2005,itwasdesignatedbytheNationalMinistryofConstructionasoneof9NationalCityWetlandParks.In2008,itwasgrantedthetitleofNationalAAAScenicSpotbytheNationalTourismBureau.XidongtingWetlandislikeanaturalmaze.Thereareabundantwaterwaysandvariousislandswithendlessreedstogetherwitharichproductionoffishandrice.Itisalsoknownasabiologicalgenebankbecauseitisthehabitatfor416differentwetplants,217speciesofbirds,and118speciesoffish.ItalsoboastsaprofoundculturalinfluenceasitisthebirthplaceoftheCanglangCulture.QuYuan,theancestorofChineseYongwuPoetry,oncelivedhereandcreatedmanyversestohonourtheDongtingLake,asdidothermenofletters,providingmanylocallegendsandarichlocalmythology.Withinthewetlandtherearemorethan30eco-tourismattractionsand4culturalspots.Itisbecomingevermorepopularamongtouristagenciesandtravelersalike.

TheChangsha-ZhangjiajieExpresswaypassesthroughthisareawithtwoexitsatJunshanpuandTaizimiao.ThereisacountylevelrailwaystationatTaizimiaoontheShimen-ChangshaRailway.TheNo.319NationalHighwayandS205ProvincialHighwayrunthroughthisareaeastwardandsouthwardrespectively.ItisalsowithineasyreachoftheHuanghuaInternationalAirport(1houraway)andtheTaohuayuanAirport(40minutesaway).ItprovideswaterwaytransportationwhichcanreachmanyotherplacesviatheDongtingLake.

Changde—ACityinTaohuayuan

ChangdeCityisa“l(fā)andflowingmilkandhoney”,neartotheDongtingLakeitisafairylandinTaohuayuanandisacharmingcityadjacenttoZhangjiajieCity.LocatedinthenorthwesternpartofHunanProvince,itconnectstheWulingRangestothewestandfacestheDongtingLaketotheeast.HistoricallyitwasvariouslynamedWuling,Langzhou,andDingzhou.Sinceitsestablishment,ithasbeencalledthe“throatofGuizhouProvinceandSichuanProvince”andthe“gatetoYunnanProvinceandGuizhouProvince”.Duringitslonghistory,itproducedmanyoutstandingpeople.Itisaplaceresplendentinhistoricalevents.Here,thevirtuousmanShanJuanoncepreachedmoralprinciples;theLordChunshen,aremarkableprimeministerintheChuKingdom,oncegatheredtalentsforhiscountry;thepatrioticpoetQuYuanintheChuKingdomoncerecitedpoemswhilewalking;thestudiousscholarCheYinoncereadbythelightfromfirefliesinabag;thefamousliteratiLiuYuxiwasdemotedtolivehere.HerethelegendsofMengjiangnvcryingdowntheGreatWall,andLiuHaimeetingthefoxfairywhenchoppingwoodwerewidespread.Heremanyoutstandingfigureswereborn,suchasSongJiaoren,LinBoqu,DingLingandJianBozan.

ChangdeCityislocatedbetweentheWulingRangesandtheDongtingLakePlate,withvariedtopographicfeatures.Therearemanybeautifulscenicspotsandhistoricalsites.Thereis1nationalAAAAscenicarea,4nationalAAAscenicareas,5nationalforestparks,1nationalkeyscenicspot,1nationalnaturereserve,1internationalkeywetland,andmorethan300otherscenicspotsofvariousscales.Taohuayuan,aShangri-laknownbywayoftheRecordsofPeachBlossomSourcebyTaoYuanming,afamouspoetintheEastJinDynasty,winsgreatfamebothathomeaswellasabroadbyvirtueofitsbeautifulsceneryandrichhistoricalsites.TheJiashanTemple,builtintheTangDynasty,isasacredplaceofBuddhismandtheoriginofJapaneseTeaCeremony.LiZicheng,afamousleaderofthepeasantuprisinginthelateMingDynasty,livedthereafterhisfailure.TheHupingMountain,knownasthe“RoofofHunan”,isrecognisedbyscientistsabroadandathomeasthe“preciousspeciesgenebankincentralChina”.TheLiuyeLake,famedasthe“numberonecitylakeinChina”,ischaracterisedbyitsshimmeringwavesandclearwater,andisanimportantinternationalaquaticsportingvenue.The3km-longChangdePoem-engravedWallisaperfectcombinationofpoetry,calligraphy,paintingandcarvingandgotintotheGuinnessBookofWorldRecordsbyitsuniquenessasthelongestpoem-engravedwallintheworld.Huayanxi,aresortwithwhiteegrets,vastwoodsandbamboos,alsoprovidesvisitorswiththeopportunitytoexperiencenatural“farmtourism”,whichmakesithardforthemtotearthemselvesaway.TherearetheChengtoushanSiteswithacity-buildinghistoryofmorethan8000years,andtheXidongtingWetlandProtectionAreawithvariouswetlandlandscapesandplentifullivingthings.There,hillsundulatearoundthewater,andfishingboatsbobinthelakeedgedwithgreenreeds;thewaterandskyblendintoonecolour;gullsandegretsflyfreelyinthesky.Differentwonderfulsceneriesarerevealedaccordingtotheseasonsanddifferenttimesofday.ItisatypicalrepresentationofthemagnificentandcharmingsceneryoftheDongtingLake.

Changdeboastssuchhonouredtitlesas“InternationalAwardforLivableCommunities”,“NationalGardenCity”,“NationalExcellentTransportationManagementCity”,“NationalHygienicCity”,and“TopTourismCityinChina”.Itisoneof60transportationjunctionsinChina.InittherearetheChangsha-ChangdeExpressway,theChangde-ZhangjiajieExpresswayandtheChangde-JishouExpressway.Inthenearfuture,whenanewexpresswaynetworkiscompleted,thetotalwillrisetosix,includingtheChangde-YueyangExpressway,theChangde-ShaoyangExpresswayandtheChangde-JingzhouExpressway.2009alsowitnessedthestartoftheelectrificationandconstructionofdoubletracklineoftheShimen-ChangshaRailway.TheGuizhou-Zhangjiajie-ChangdeRailway,theChangde-YueyangRailway,theLinli-Jinshi-An’xiangRailwayandtheChangde-ChangshaIntercityRailwayarecurrentlyunderplan.TheTaohuayuanAirportinChangdeCityhasalreadyopenedroutestoShanghai,Guangzhou,Shenzhen,Kunming,andBeijing.

HuayanxiNationalForestPark

HuayanxiNationalForestParkisanationalAAAresortandaprovincialnaturereserve.Itisalsoknownasanationaloutdoorcampfortheyouth.Itiscomposedoffivemajorscenicspots,namely,theCentralArea,WuxiLake,LongfengLake,XianchiMountain,XifengMountain,withatotalareaof45squarekilometersandapopulationof4,000.Onthemountains,therearetwogreatlakes,WuxiLakeandLongfengLake,withanareaof700hectaresandastoragecapacityofmorethan80millioncubicmetersofwater.Thesetwolakesareconnectedbythetwistsandturnsofvariouswaterways.Crystal-clearwaterandgreenmountainslooklikeabeautifulwatercolourpainting.Ithaswell-protectedvegetation.Itsforestcoverageismorethan95%anditisrichinanimalandplantresources.Thereare1,089speciesofrareplantsundernationalprotection,likeginkgobiloba,bawen,andmanglietia,and326speciesofrareanimals,likeleopard,otter,waterviverra,andchrysolophuspictus.ThedanceofhundredsofthousandsofegretsfromMarchtoOctobereveryyearattractsmanytouriststocomehereforsightseeingandleisurelyvacations.Therefore,itiscalledthehometownoftheegretinChina.Farfromthenoisycity,itisalsohometosimpleandhonestpeople,andaharmoniousandquietenvironment.Itiswidelypraisedbytouristsforitsuniquecharacteristicssuchasold-fashionedwoodenhouseswithblacktiltsandtung-oiledplates,deliciouslocalfoodlikeleicha(Mortaredtea)andricewine,aswellasforthewarmreception.

Itis55kmsouthofChangdeCity,30kmawayfromTaohuanyuanAirport,and60kmfromChangdeRailwayStation.

Itisonly30kmawayfromtheTaohuayuanexitoftheChangsha-JishouExpressway.ItcanalsobereachedviatheNo.319andNo.207NationalHighways.WiththecompletionoftheTaohuaRoad(atouristhighwayfromTaohuayuantoHuayanxi),itwillbemoreconvenientfortouriststovisitHuayanxi.

TheJiashanMountainScenicArea

TheJiashanMountainScenicAreastandsinJinshiCountylocatedintheNorthwestofHunanProvince.Itconsistsof4sections,namely,JiashanMountain,XujiaLake,Shiling-QingshanScenicAreaandGuchengScenicTourismTown,coveringanareaof17.35km2.Asthecorescenicspot,JiashanMountainislocatedattheedgeoftheWulingRange,withtheDongtingLaketotheEast,LiRivertotheWestandanidylliccountrysideareatotheSouth.JiashanMountainoccupiesanareaof2km2withaheightof147.07m.About0.5kmSouthofJiashanMountainliesthebirthplaceofMengjiangnv.Accordingtoaccountsinthe“StoryofMengjiangMountian”writtenbyQuoQingin1867(thesixthyearofEmperorTongzhi’sreign),JiashanMountainwascalledCuilubeforetheQinDynasty.Afteralongtreksearchingforherhusband(FanXi),MengjiangnvfailedandcriedattheGreatWall.TheGreatWallcollapsedbeforeherandMengrecognisedherhusband’sskeletonbysheddingherblood.ShedecidedtoreturntotheirhometownwiththebonesbutdiedatTongguan,Shanxi.ThelocalresidentsweresomovedbyherstorythattheydecidedtorenametheirtownMengjiangMountain,commonlyknownasMengjiaMountain.DuringtheperiodofEmperorHongzhiintheMingDynasty(1488-1505),LiRugui,theministeroftwomajordepartmentsatthattime,wasaLizhoulocal.MengjiaMountainwasrenamedJiashanMountain(theChinesecharacterJiameans“topraise”)byLiRuguitohonourMengjiangnv.JiangnvTemple,orJiangnvShrine,wasbuilttherebyotherpeople.Itconsistsofmorethan30houses,withanEntranceHall,MainHall,BackHallandTempleHall.TheTempleexperienceddestructionandunderwentreconstructionmanytimes.InJanuary,1954,itwaslaidinruinafterafiercefire.InthefrontoftheTemple,therewas‘WangfuPlatform’(aplatformusedtolongforMeng’shusband)anda‘MirrorStone’.ThewellontheSouthernslopeofJiashanMountainisalsofamedtobeaspectacularscene,havingexistedforathousandyearswithconstantfreshwater.ItissaidtobetheplacewhereMengjiangnvwasbathingasFanXihidbehindatreeandpeekedather,afterwhichtheybecamemarried.Thiswellwasthusnamedthe‘BathingWell’.Legendhasitthatloverscanbeblessedandhavechildreniftheydrinkwaterfromit.

JiashanliesbetweenChangshaandWuhanandthusenjoysauniqueadvantageintermsoftransportationlinks.TheXiangbeiExpresswayandTaiyuan-MacauExpressway(tobeconstructed)passthroughJinshiCounty.ItconnectstheShimen-ChangshaRailwayandZhicheng-LiuzhouRailway.TaohuayuanAirportisalsoonly80kmawayfromJinshiCity.NearthecityistheLiRiver,whichrunseastwardtotheDongtingLakeandboastsoneofthesixmajorportsofHunanProvince.Itisnavigablefor500-tonvesselsallyearroundtoplacesasfarasChangsha,Wuhan,andShanghai.

LinBoqu’sFormerResidence

LinBoqu,anoutstandingproletarianrevolutionary,wasanimportantpartyandstateleaderandoneofthefoundersofthePeople’sRepublicofChina.LinBoqu’sformerresidence,builtintheperiodoftheEmperorGuangxuoftheQingDynasty,isatypicalresidentialbuildingoftheQingDynasty.ItislocatedinthebeautifulLiangshuijingVillage,XiumeiTown,LinliCounty,whereLinspenthischildhoodandyouth.FacingtheSouth,ithas3rowsofroomsinsideandacreekoutsideflowingmorethan10milesalongthefrontgardenofthehouse.Hungontheroofbeamoftherearcentralroom,thereisaplaquewiththeinscription“JiuMuShijia”(TheNobleFamilyofLin)indicatingtheelegantandplainqualityofthisfamily.AbronzestatueofLinBoqusurroundedbyoldcypressesstandssolemnlyandstatelyinthefrontgarden.DengXiaopingwrote“FormerResidenceofComradeLinBoqu”.Nowtheresidencehasbeengiventhestatusof‘ProvincialKeyCulturalRelic’,‘ProvincialPatrioticEducationBase’and‘RedScenicTouristAttraction’.

LinBoqu’sFormerResidenceis55kmawayfromChangdeCity.TheNo.207NationalHighwayrunsthroughXiumeiTownanda5kmhardenedroadlinksthehighwaytoLinBoqu’sformerresidence.A12kmtouristroadconnectsitwiththeJiashanTempleinShimenanda10kmtouristroadconnectsitwiththeChengtoushanRelicsinLixianCounty.

Location:TaohuayuanTourismResortislocatedinthelowerreachoftheYuanRiverandinthesouthwesternpartofTaoyuanCounty.ItincludesTaohuaMountain,TaoyuanMountain,QinDynastyVillage,TaoxianMountain,theLingjintanScenicSpot,theYiwangxiScenicSpot,andthe69kmYuanRiverTouristLine.Ithasatotalareaof157.55km2.Itsscenicareaincorporatesfivevillagesandtowns:QinglinVillage,ZhangjiangTown,TaohuayuanTown,LingjintanVillageandXinglongjieVillage.

History:TaohuayuanistheprototypeofawonderfulplacefarfromthecruelreignoftheQinDynastydescribedinRecordsofPeachBlossomSourcebyTaoYuanming,afamouspoetintheEastJinDynasty.Ithasa1,600-yearhistoryandhasbeenregardedasaShangri-labylatergenerations.TaohuayuanwasfirstbuiltintheJinDynasty(256-439A.D),begantotakeshapeintheTangDynasty(618-709),flourishedintheSongDynasty(960-1297),andwenttoruinintheYuanDynasty(1297-1368).WithupsanddownsthroughtheMingDynasty(1368-1911),itwasalmostabandonedinthetimesoftheRepublicofChina(1912-1949).Itsrestorationbeganin1949andalarge-scaleexpansionanddevelopmentbeganin1990.Even5,000-6,000yearsago,fishermenlivedintheTaohuayanScenicArea.ItbelongedtotheChuKingdomintheWarringStatesPeriod,QianzhongShireintheQinDynasty,YuannanCountyofWulingShireintheHanDynasty,andYuannanCountyofJingzhouWulingShireintheJinDynasty.IntheearlyTangDynasty,thegovernmentdefinedtherangeoftheTaohuayuanMountain.LiuYuxi,afamouslitterateurintheTangDynasty,oftenwentsight-seeinginTaohuayuanandwroteBeautifulSceneofTaoyuanwhenhewasdemotedhere.InthefirstyearoftheQiandePeriodoftheSongDynasty(963),thegovernmentPidedtheareaintothemiddleandlowerreachesoftheYuanRiverinTaohuayuan,anditestablishedanewcountycalled“Taoyuan”wheretherewerescenicspotsandhistoricalsites.InthefirstyearofZhenghe,EmperorHuioftheSongDynastywrote“TaochuanLongevityPalace”onasteleandsentittoTaoyuanyuan.Afterthat,itbecameevenmorefamous.EvenintheYuanandQingDynastiesandduringChina’sRepublicanPeriodwhentheareafounditselfintermittentlyineitherprosperityordepression,Taohuayuanwasstillofgreatcharm.
