withallofyou.ImightsaythankstoHuiyangEducationBureau,giving

mesuchagoodchancetosharemyteachingexperiencewithallthe

primaryEnglishteachersinourdistrict.

TodayI'llpreferspeakingEnglishtospeakingChineseasIusually

didbeforeatlargemeeting.AndIthinkweshoulddothisbecausewe

requireourstudentstospeakEnglishinclass.SobeingEnglishteachers,

wecan'tmissanychancetospeakEnglish.Right?Anyway,itsagood

waytopracticeoralEnglish.

SoIdon'tknowwhetheryoucanlearnsomethingfrommeornot

aftermylecture,butatleastIwillletyoulistentoEnglishor

communicatewitheachotherfornearlytwohours.SoIreallyhopethat

Totellyouthetruth,IhadneverthoughtofbeingateacherbeforeI

SoIhaveneverregrettedstudyinginGuangdongForeignLanguage

EnglishmagazinesandwatchEnglishmovies,IliketospeakEnglishand

writeEnglishdiariesonmyQzone.

Honestlytosay,Iamjustaverycommonteacherwhohasbeen

teachingforovertwentyyears,whichseemslikemucholderthanmostof

you.Butitdoesn'tmatter,becausepeoplearoundmealwayssaythatI

reallylookyoungerthanmyown.Well,howhappytohearthat!

OnethingIrememberhappenedinBeijinglastyearwhenIgot

thechancetoattendtheNationalTeacherTrainingProgramwasasurvey

ofourteachingyears.Whentheteacheraskedthosewhohadtaughtmore

thanfiveyearstoputupthehands,Iraisedmyhand.Whenhesaidmore

thantenyears,Iputupmyhandagain,andmorethanfifteenyears,Istill

raisedmine,atlastmorethantwentyyears,Istilldidthesame!Oh,my

god!Onlytwo!Andonewasme.Noneofthembelievedit!Butitstrue.

SonowIamsuretheteacherswhoteachlowergradesmostlylook

youngerandmoreactivethanthosewhoteachhighergrades.Don'tyou

Well,nomatterhowwelook,Ithinkkeepingactiveorhavingan

optimisticattitudeisquitegoodforus,becauseweoftenusealotofbody

languageinourteaching.Thatwillhelpthestudentsincreasetheir

interestinEnglishlearning.

Whatweknowisthatchildrenliketoimitate.Sodoingaction

heredoesnotonlymeantorelaxduringtheclass,butletthemremember

themeaningofthewords,phrasesorsentenceswithspeakingor

watchingatthesametime.Iwillshowyousomeexamples.

Asweknow,wehavesomenewwordsineachunit.Andifwestill

usethetraditionalwaystoletthechildrenrepeatthemagainandagain,I

amsuretheywillfeelquiteboredinyourclass.Sohowtomakethewords

talktochildren?Thatdependsonhowwedesign.

Inourschool,weusuallymakeachantforeverynewword,and

wewillgivemoreexampleswhichhavethesamesound.Thisideacame

tomein2002whenIwasteachinggradeone.Atthattimethetextbook

weusedwasintegratedEnglish.Thereweremuchmorenewwordsor

thingsthanwhatwehadexpected.SoIhadtotrymybesttomakethem

easy,letmystudentsunderstandanduse;onlywhenthetimeIexplained

onewordoronethingforafewminutesandtheystilldidn'tgetitwouldI

tellthemtheChinesemeaningdirectly;usuallyIhadtoexplainby

actionsorpictures.Nowletstakealookatthefollowing:

Hair,hair,longhairshorthaircombmyhair.

Face,face,washmyface,clean,clean,clean.

ThesecondtimeIusedwasalsoinanopenlessonin2008.The

teachersarehardtomakethemcalmdownincontrollingclass

atmosphere,especiallywhenthestudentsaretooexcitedtostop.Thatwill

beabigclassproblem.

Sowhatweneedtodoistoarrangethegamesatpropertime,

andbasicallytosay,youneedtotrainyourstudentstobehavewellatthe

it.Soremember:Twoheadsarebetterthanone.Discusswithyour

workmates,itmayhelpyousomehow,becausecooperationisthebest

waytocommunicateorwork.

Thisremindsmethecooperationamongtheanimals.Ioften

watchTVonanimals.Fromthat,Iknowthatalthoughalionismuch

strongerthatalioness,itdependsonthepreyhuntedbylionessesto

survive.Andthelionessescan'tsurviveiftheydon'tworktogether.Sodo

wolves.Sinceweknowtheimportanceofcooperation,whynotuseitand

shareyourgoodideasineducatingchildren?Bytheway,itsnotonly

responsibilitytoeducatechildren,butalsoourobligationtodothat,
