Thetown'sschooldistrictandcommunitymembersstartedtheprogrameightyearsago.It's
partoftheNationalFarmtoSchoolNetwork,whichaimstoincreaseaccesstolocalfoodand
nutritioneducationacrossthecountry.Jones,whoattendedpublicschoolinLivingstonasakid,has
headedupthelocalprogramsince2014.FarmtoSchoolenrichesthecurriculuminallofthe
schoolsthroughgardenlessons,cafeteriaandkitchenlessons,andclassroomlessons.
Researchhasshownthathealthyschoolmealscanimproveacademicperformance,including
improvedtestscores.ThoughtheFarmtoSchoolprogramisnotaimedonlyatlower-income

Thishardfoughtcampaignresultedinthehistorymaking1967Referendum(公

Inthe1970sKathtravelledacrossAustraliaandtheworldonlecturetourstoraiseawareness
ofthedisadvantageexperiencedbyherpeople.
Kathcontinuedtobeasuccessfulwriter.Shewroteaseriesofbooksforyoungreaders
recreatingthestoriesshelearnedasayounggirl,startingwithStradbrokeDreamtime(1972).She
