Yet, I was determined to go ahead.I remember back to my 7th year in school. In my first P.E. class, the teacher required us to run laps and then hit a softball. I didnt do either well. He later informed me that I was not athletic. The idea that I was not athletic stuck with me for years. When I started running in my 30s, I realized running was a battle against myself, not about competition or whether or not I was athletic. It was all about the battle against my own body and mind. A test of wills! The night before my marathon, I dreamt that I couldnt even find the finish line. I woke up sweating and nervous, but ready to prove something to myself.Shortly after crossing the start line, my shoe laces(鞋帶) became untied. So I stopped to readjust. Not the start I wanted! At mile 3, I passed a sign: GO FOR IT, RUNNERS!By mile 17, I became out of breath and the once injured ankle hurt badly. Despite the pain, I stayed the course walking a bit and then running again.By mile 21, I was starving! As I approached mile 23, I could see my wife waving a sign. She is my biggest fan. She never minded the alarm clock sounding at 4 a.m. or questioned my expenses on running.I was one of the final runners to finish. But I finished! And I got a medal. In fact, I got the same medal as the one that the guy who came in first place had.Determined to be myself, move forward, free of shame and worldly labels(世俗標(biāo)簽), I can now call myself a marathon winner.4.Amonthbeforethemarathon,theauthor _.A.waswelltrainedB.feltscared C.madeuphismindtorunD.losthope5.WhydidtheauthormentiontheP.E.classinhis7thyear?A.Toacknowledgethesupportofhisteacher.B.Toamusethereaderswithafunnystory.C.Toshowhewasnottalentedinsports.D.Toshareapreciousmemory.6.Howwastheauthorsfirstmarathon?A.Hemadeit.B.Hequithalfway.C.Hegotthefirstprize.D.Hewalkedtotheend.7.Whatdoesthestorymainlytellus?A.Amanoweshissuccesstohisfamilysupport.B.Awinnerisonewithagreateffortofwill.C.Failureisthemotherofsuccess.D.Oneisnevertoooldtolearn. CIts at this time of the year that marathon recovery, not marathon training, starts to take center stage.Research indicates that the muscle damage from running a marathon can last up to two weeks. The research also indicates that muscle soreness(肌肉酸痛) is not a good indicator of muscular healing. In other words, just because you arent sore anymore doesnt mean that you are fully healed. This is the danger for marathon runners: post-marathon muscular soreness fades after a few days but minor damage within the muscle cells remains. If you return to full training too soon running more and faster than the tissues are ready for you risk delaying full recovery and the chance to get ready for your next goal. The solution, it appears, is to recognize(and accept) that the muscles will take a while to heal and to be prepared to take it easy for the first couple of weeks(even longer if youre particularly sore after your marathon). While the research isnt very promising when it comes to things to do to reduce soreness and aid healing, a couple of concepts appear to help. First, providing gentle blood flow to the area helps bring healing nutrients(營(yíng)養(yǎng)) into the muscles and also helps to remove waste products and damaged tissue. Walking and gentle massage(按摩) can help, particularly in the first few days after a marathon. Once muscle soreness has significantly reduced (usually two to four days after the race), light jogging can commence. Just be mindful to run very slowly. No runner wants to get super fit and then lose that during the recovery process. But since you must reduce your training load following your marathon, it can be difficult as to how much and how soon to insert running into your post-marathon training.8When should marathon runners return to full training? AAbout half a month after the competition. BA few days after soreness disappears. CBefore the tissues recover completely. DBefore the next game draws closer.9How can marathon runners reduce their muscle soreness? AThrough family care.BBy doing gentle exercise. CThrough medical treatment.DBy removing damaged tissue.10Which of the following best explains “commence” underlined in Paragraph 3? AFit.BHeal.CStart.DMend.11What can be a suitable title for the text? AReducing Training LoadBSoreness with Sports CHealing Muscle SorenessDRecovery after MarathonDSport is not only physically challenging, but can also be mentally challenging. Criticism from coaches, parents and other teammates, as well as pressure to win can create too much anxiety or stress for young athletes. Stress can be physical, emotional, or psychological and research has indicated that it can lead to burnout. Burnout has been described as dropping or quitting of an activity that was at one time enjoyable. The early years of development are critical years for learning about oneself. The sport setting is one where valuable experiences can take place. Young athletes can, for example, learn how to cooperate with others, make friends, and gain other social skills that will be used throughout their lives. Coaches and parents should be aware, at all times, that their feedback to youngsters can greatly affect their children. Youngsters may take their parents and coaches criticisms to heart and find faults in themselves.Coaches and parents should also pay attention that youth sport participation does not become work for children. The outcome of the game should not be more important than the process of learning the sport and other life lessons. In todays youth sport setting young athletes may be worrying more about who will win instead of enjoying themselves and the sport. Following a game many parents and coaches focus on the outcome and find faults with youngsters performances. Positive support should be provided regardless of the outcome. Research indicates that positive support motivates and has a greater effect on learning than criticism. Again, criticism can create high levels of stress, which can lead to burnout.12. An effective way to prevent the burnout of young athletes is_.A. to make sport less competitiveB. to reduce their mental stressC. to increase their sense of successD. to make sport more challenging13. According to the passage, sport is positive for young people in that_.A. it can help them learn more about societyB. it enables them to find faults in themselvesC. it can provide them with valuable experiencesD. it teaches them how to set realistic goals for themselves14. Many coaches and parents are in the habit of criticizing young athletes_.A. so as to put more pressure on themB. in order to make them remember lifes lessonsC. believing that criticism does good to their early developmentD. without realizing criticism may destroy their selfconfidence15. According to the passage parents and coaches should_.A. pay more attention to letting children enjoy sportB. help children to win every gameC. train children to deal with stressD. enable children to understand the positive aspect of sport第二節(jié) (共5小題;每小題2分,滿分10分)根據(jù)短文內(nèi)容,從短文后的選項(xiàng)中選出能填入空白處的最佳選項(xiàng)。選項(xiàng)中有兩項(xiàng)為多余選項(xiàng)。Sports performance can be influenced by many different things. 16 There are many physical factors(因素)that play a part in sports performance. 17 The natural talent and strength of the players will make a difference. Also,it is important to get enough sleep before you are in a sports event. 18 Eating good meals is also important. When you are hungry, you cannot perform the same. You might be thinking about food when you should be thinking about the game. Of course, the more a team or a player practices, the more likely they are to perform well. The same person with the same physical abilities might just become better as he practices.Researching your competitor can matter a lot in sports performance. Knowing their strengths and weaknesses can help you adjust how you play to give yourself a better performance against them. 19 If you can figure out where to hit the ball in tennis that would confuse your competitor, for example, then this can help you score points. 20 If someone is very pessimistic about a game, for example, and is sure that he will lose, then he might increase his chances of doing so. If he is very nervous then he might be thinking about that instead of focusing on the game. If he is focused then he might do better, achieving what he didnt even realize he could. His confidence can also affect how the other team views him.AIt is important to be aware of these factors.BIt is necessary to get to know your competitor and yourself.CAlso, there are ways to play something smartly and do better.DIf you are tired, you may not perform as you normally would.E. If you have practiced enough to keep fit, you should have a rest.F. If someone is in good shape, then of course he will perform better.G. There are many psychological factors that can play a part in how well you perform. I still remember the day when I lost my job. But because of the financial crisis, the situation of the employment have become very serious. Consider this, some people suggest graduates should have a lower career expectation, such as working in the western areas of China. I in favor of this idea. Firstly, compared with the big cities, the competition is not very fierce there, but graduates can easy get a job. Secondly, the lower position may offer graduate more space. All in all, going to the west may be bring more benefits. Devote yourself to the west, for it is good for both our personal development and our country at present. De
