The Urban designers set strict yet imagi

Each block, with a square stand and chamfered street corners measuring 113,3 meters, would be built in two of its wings, leaving the

19、 rest as gardened zones for the use and enjoyment of the neighbors. The reason for these chamfers in every corner is found in Ildefons Cerds clever vision of the future. He foresaw the proliferation of mechanical vehicles circulating along the streets of the city and the chamfer improves the visibil

20、ity in the crossings. The insertion of an armature, in the form of a belowgrade pedestrian concourse, has connected existing but distinct shopping and market districts on either side of t

22、he citys main thoroughfare, known as the Coolsingel, and improved the area around the busy Beursplein Metro Station. Set below the city, yet open to the sky, the 300-metre sunken shopping gallery is accessible by ramps and stairs, escalators and elevators. The development includes 800 parking spaces
