5、BATE: Building Fluency in English Through Debate (JaneyRobideau) Stude nts will lear n how formal debates are con ducted in the謝謝觀賞謝謝觀賞English-speaking world. They will read background material and work in groups to argue the pros and cons of a range of issues. Many of the issues will be related to

6、the earth scie nces and en viro nmen tal studies. The emphasis in the class will be on sharpe ning reas oning skills and develop ing the oral English of argument, exchange and persuasion. Students must start with some previous ability to use gen eral En glish conv ersati on ally.GEOLOGICAL ENGLISH:T

7、alking about Earthi (William White)The earth scie nces are very differe nt fields, but they share a basic vocabulary to talk about Earth as a dyn amic system. This in teractive course will use short readings, discussions, dialogs, dictations and drills to launch students in the use of the basic Engl

8、ish of geology important in their careers. The primary objective is to give stude nts greater con fide nee in talk ing about geological matters, and sec on darily to build greater willi ngn ess to use geological textbooks and articles in En glish. Grad ing will reflect participation and the results

9、of several short quizzes.
