For this second group it is hard to find where the benefits of

、 modem technology are available for them. Such as modem healthcare, modem communications technology, or modern comforts. Many of the new developments are not even reaching huge sectors of our communities; either in this country or other developing, undeveloped or even developed countries .But these

、late, modem change would not have been possible without the earlier developments. Fire creates heat necessary for working with iron; writing is at the base of our communication systems, and wheels are under our cars and in our watches. It follows therefore that the earlier developments which have con

、tinued to exist are still bringing benefits to us long after they were invented even though they have disappeared from our thinking. In the future sitting at a computer may seem very old-fashioned, but whatever we use, it will probably be the product of fire, and somehow made possible with the use o

、f wheels and writing. There are social, medical and technical problems associated with the use of mobile phones. What forms do they take? Do you agree that the problems outweigh the benefits of mobile phones?Mobile phones are frequently in almost all the aspects of our daily lives. However, there is

、an opinion that the wide application mobile phone also exerts a negative influence on the society, an individuals health and technologic development. It is undeniable that mobile phones have facilities our lives in many different ways. For example, when an emergency occurs, such as a traffic accident

、 or a violent crime, mobile phones can help the victims to call the police or an ambulance immediate for help. They also make people work faster and more efficiently, as people can send or read emails via mobile phones, and communicate quickly and easily with their clients and co-works.Indeed, it is

、 the case that talking on cell phones in public with high voice disturbs people around. Moreover, as far as radiation of cell phone is concerned, scientific evidence has shown that radiation that a working mobile phone produces has the potential to cause brain cancer and cardiovascular diseases. Apa

、rt from the health problems, a range of technical defects would give rise to a series of dangers. For instance, using mobile phones on board a plane may affect the navigation system of the aircraft, which will endanger the lives of the passengers. To conclude, we should not overlook the negative infl

、uence the cell phones produce, because the downsides far exceed the merits.Leisure is a growing industry, but people no longer entertain themselves as much as they used to because the use of modem technology has made them less creative. Do you agree or disagree with this statement?Technology becomes

、 an increasingly important part of our life. We may use technology when we want to entertain ourselves. However, whilst recreational activities are getting increasingly diversified, many people unfortunately find that they can not get entertained as much as they did in the past.In some areas modem t

、echnology allows the expression of human creativity to go unhindered. Indeed, with up-to-date computer grapics technology, some astonishing special effects are frequently shown in Hollywood movies, particularly in some science-fiction works. Moreover, with the invention of the Internet, game lovers

、across the globe can explore the full of online entertainment in a virtual world fullof mystery and adventure.Nevertheless, in most cases, the overuse of modem technology has made life less entertaining than it could have been. Take the music industry for example, unlike their predecessors who were

As a result, despite the mass production of popular songs an music, we rarely find a truly remarkable piece. Imagines again those childh

Simple as they may be, these activities offered us the real excitement of going outside and having fun with our friends. By contrast, nowadays an increasing number of modem entertainment forms such as watching TV and p

To wha

、t extent do you think television has positively or negatively affected cultural development? With the advent of televisions 40 years ago, the cultures have been influenced largely. Some people regard the impacts as positive while others opinions run contrary. As far as I concerned, we can not just us

、e positive or negative to summarise the impact. On the one hand, we must recognize that television does have some positive effects on cultures within a society. People who do not live within their own culture can access it through multicultural stations on TV.On the other hand, televisions promotes

、the stronger cultures of countries such as Britain and the US and weakens the cultures of less wealthy countries. This is because the stronger countries are able to assert their own culture by producing more programmes that are shown widely around the world. These programmes then influence people, e

、specially young people, in the countries where they are shown. Also, because television networks need to attract large audiences to secure their financial survival, they must produce programmes that are interesting to a broad range of people. To interest all these different people, most television p

、rogrammes are short, full of action and excitement and pursue themes common to all cultures, such as crime and romance. Television programmes that concentrate on or develop themes related to one particular culture are not so successful because they only interest a smaller audience. To sum up, televis

、ions are the sword of double edge, as it can both promotes the cultures of wealthy and influential countries and weakens cultures that are already in a week position.Nowadays cheap air travel is increasingly popular in the world. To what extent do you think its advantages outweigh its disadvantages?

、There was a time when air travel was only for the wealthy people and out of reach of the majority of citizens. But now low-cost fights are available in many countries .In terms of developing tourism, low-cost airlines surely have their advantage as well. They provide more tourists with the chance to

、 travel by air. Time is valuable for travelers because very few of us have along vacation. Compared with a train or a bus journey, low-cost flights do not cost much more time and energy for tours in our destinations.Another advantage of low-cost flight is , of course, the cost. Some discount airline

、 tickets are so cheap that they cost even less than the airport tax . This change can certainly give more people access to air travel and increase the efficiency of traveling, either for business or for pleasure, worldwide. Some people are worried that low-budget air travel may be uncomfortable or ti

、resome than regular flights. In fact, most low-cost airlines provide the same space for the economy-class passengers. Even if we really un happy with the seats, we can always get a better seat with very little additional cost.Other people may complain that cheap air travel consumes more fuel and cau

、ses pollution when an increasing number of people travel is more damaging to the environment than bus rides or train rides because air trips carry a lot more people than cars and trains. So my conclusion is that not only can low-cost airlines offer us inexpensive flights, they also give us greater co

、nvenience and more options, on which we cannot put a price tag.The production and transportation of food has been heavily influenced by modern technology. To what extent do you think this is a positive development? For over a decade, the impact of technology on the food industry has been a major publ

、ic concern.I believe technological innovations have brought about plenty of benefits to the production and transportation of food. For customers, the application of technology in food production has greatly increased the variety of food available to us, which can mean more choices and better taste.

、Whats more, frozen food provides more convenience for people, especially the city residents who are always busy. Now we do not have to do the chore of cooking meals everyday. Last but not least, the production of food on assembly lines cuts the costs for businesses and customers can now purchase goo

、ds at much lower price than before, which means we should be left with more money for education and entertainment. But the dark side of the development is the modern way of producing and transporting food often damage the environment. For example, to increase the crop yield, farmers often grow plants

、 with the help of chemical fertiliser, which means the ecological balance can be easily destroyed. Health concerns are also raised about the genetically-modified food and the fish taken from polluted rivers and lakes world wide.On balance, it seems that modern technology is conducive to a simpler an

、d more pleasant lifestyle in terms of food. What scientists should improve is to make the food industry “green” in the future. Many people ignore basic science today, what are the causes and what are your solutions? In present age society, education has been paid increasingly attention to. However, st

、range as it may seem, the significance of basic-the main driving force behind productivity has been largely ignored by the general public. The reasons for this abnormal phenomenon lie in the nature of basic science.First of all, the benefit of basic science research extends far beyond laymens percep

、tion. Unlike applied science, basic science concentrates on the development of theories rather than the design of any specific products for practical use. In fact, the period between the invention of a theory and its first application can be as long as several years. As a result, basic science progr

、ams hold little attraction to investors and therefore are often undervalued. Moreover, basic science such as physics and chemistry has always been shrouded in mystery or secrecy. Their areas of research are highly specialised.Since basic science is the foundation of most technological developments,

、some steps must be taken to revere this trend. The government should fulfill its responsibility in raising public awareness of significance of basic science. Only when government gives priority to this field in its policy can basic science get the funding and the public support that is urgently need

、. Also, companies should financially support scientists who commit themselves to basic science, not just for the sake of profit, but for the development as well.Basic science deserves much public attention. Certainly none of us want it to become a completely stagnant due to our ignorance.Life was be

、tter when technology was simpler. To what extend do you agree or disagree? With the development of human society, technology has been becoming increasingly vital in peoples life. However, some people think the life was simpler when the technology was not so developed. As far as I concerned, these peo

、ple are misguided. The first reason is that simplicity was because of a lack of choices. Before large jet planes came in the 1960s, for example, air travel was beyond the imagination of most people. Before electronic modern banking system was invented, people had to spend a lot of time on math calcul

、ations on their work. Moreover, our knowledge of the world around us, especially foreign countries, was sketchy before the advent of televisions. Modern technology has brought the world in literature into vivid pictures, videos and even real life.It not always true that modern technology is more com

、plex to use than it was to perform household chores. Caring for a horse was a far more complex and time-consuming matter than having a car. Probably, what makes people to long for the old simpler life is the speed of modern society. But sometimes, this change can be resisted, when we set ourselves s

、imple priorities and stick to it.To sum up, technologys merits can overwhelm its demerits only when people have learned how to balance between what are really in need and what the technology can provide. When a country develops its technology, the traditional skills and ways of life die out. It is po

、intless to try to keep them alive. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this opinion? In present age society, technology has been increasingly significant role in peoples life. Some people think technology may cause traditions to die out, and it makes no sense to keep them alive. But I disagr

、ee with this opinion. I will illustrate my view as follow. To start with, traditions are the treasure and heritage from our ancestors. Every country should be proud of his unique cultural identity. Whats more, we can learn much from traditions such as the thought of our forefathers and the ancient li

、festyles. Finally, traditions can be regarded as a huge resource of tourism attractions for a nations economy.Further, to some extent, technology can positively contribute to keep traditional skills and way of life alive. For instance, in some remote areas, people do not have proper secondary educat

、ion for children. Thus the children could only be separated from their parents if there were no convenient transportation. On this condition, provided that they have the chance to leave the impoverished village, they may never plan to go back, because it takes too much time and money. As a result fo

、r a long-term situation, the new generation will all migrate to cities, leaving the village deserted. To the contrary, technology have shortened the gap between the urban and rural areas to maintain some traditions alive. In addition, the internet and modern refrigeration techniques are being used t

、o conserve and advertise traditional foods such as Chinese traditional food Zongzi. In conclusion, may technology damage traditions, they still can be used positively. The point is that human should find a balance between them, instead of just sitting doing nothing. Some people think that modern techn

、ology is increasing the gap between the rich and the poor. To what extend do you agree with their opinion? I agree with the statement that the development of technology is expanding the gap between haves and have-nots. This is evident when we examine examples like the startling year and lives of some high-tech entrepreneurs such as Larry Page and Sergey Brin who make more 550 dollars every second. Market economy means money us paid in exchange for ma
