And in the years since, ur cuntry has faced a chice. There aresme flks wh wanted t place an even bigger bet n tp-dwn ecnmics, the ki

、 I didnt run fr President t duble dwn n tp-dwnecnmics. I ran fr President because I believed in bttm-up ecnmics. I believed in middle-ut ecnmics. I placed a bet n yu. I placed a bet n Americas wrkers. (Applause.) I put mymney n American wrkers and the belief that ur ecnmy grws best when everybdy has

And Ive cme back t Labrfest t say that because f yur hard wrk, because f what weve been thrugh tgether, that bet is starting t pay ff.America is strnger because f the decisins we made t rescue ur

Tday, ur wrkers are building mre carsthan any time since 2019年 - and, by the way, theyre really gd cars. The aut industry isadding jbs at the s

、trngest rate since the 1990s.America is strnger because we invested in hmegrwn energy. The wrlds number-ne il andgas prducer - its nt Russia, its nt Saudi Arabia - its the U.S. f A. We are the largestprducer. (Applause.) And fr the first time in nearly 20 years, America nw prduces mre ilthan we buy

、frm ther cuntries. But were als prducing mre clean energy, putting flksback t wrk. Weve tripled the amunt f wind pwer that creates energy. Weve increased by10 times the amunt f slar pwer we create. And all f that is creating tens f thusands fgd jbs all acrss the cuntry. (Applause.)America is strnger

、 because we set ur schls n a race t the tp.re middle-class families affrd cllege. Tday, thanks t utstanding teachers, ur high schl graduatinrate is at a recrd high. (Applause.) Mre yung peple are earning their cllege degrees thanever befre. (Applause.)America is strnger because we helped millins f r

、espnsible hmewners stay in their hmes, and we gt sme f biggest banks wh sld deceptive mrtgages t help make things right -theyre pnying up billins f dllars t d right by flks wh gt cheated. We changed a tacde that was skewed t much t the wealthy at the epense f wrking families. We madesure, yu knw what

、, yu guys have gt t pay a little mre. And as a cnsequence, we cutur deficits by mre than half. (Applause.)And yes, Milwaukee, America is strnger because millins mre Americans have the peace fmind f quality, affrdable health insurance that they can cunt n. Yes, we did that. (Applause.)S I just want e

、verybdy t understand - because yu wuldnt always knw it frm watchingthe news - (laughter) - by almst every measure, the American ecnmy and Americanwrkers are better ff than when I tk ffice. (Applause.) Were better ff by almst everymeasure. But, lk, nne f this prgress has cme easy. Every inch f it we

、have had t fightfr. Every inch f it weve had t wrk against a lckstep ppsitin that is ppsed teverything we d.But it was wrth it. Every gray hair is wrth it. (Applause.) Every gray hair is wrth it - and atleast Ive still gt sme hair. (Applause.)AUDIENCE MEMBER: And yu lk gd!THE PRESIDENT: h, I lk gd -

、 see, I like that. Thank yu. (Applause.) Whenever flkssay - whenever they see me they say, yu knw what, yu lk kay - like theyre surprised. (Laughter.) And then smetimes they say I lk taller than I d n TV. (Laughter.) I say, yes, Ilk - thats because the TV is small. It makes me lk smaller. (Laughter.

、)Lk, it is thanks t the grit, t the resilience f wrking Americans that this cuntry we lve,its recvered faster, its cme farther than almst any ther advanced ecnmy. Fr the firsttime in mre than a decade, business leaders arund the wrld, when yu ask them, where dyu want t invest, whats the number-ne pl

、ace t invest, they dnt say China, they dnt sayGermany - they say the United States f America. And ur lead is grwing. (Applause.) U.S.A!AUDIENCE: U.S.A! U.S.A! U.S.A!THE PRESIDENT: S, lk, Im saying all this just because smetimes, if yure watching TVr smething, its just kind f a whle dwner. (Laughter.

、) Weve gt struggles. Weve gt wrkt d. But there are a lt f reasns t be ptimistic abut America.Mre flks are wrking. The ecnmys grwing strnger. The engines are revving a little luder. And the questin nw is, are we ging t make the right decisins t accelerate this prgress? Are we ging t cntinue t fcus n wr

、king families? Are we ging t cntinue t make surethat a grwing ecnmy gives everybdy rising incmes and wages? Are we ging t make surethat were helping the middle class and everybdy wh is trying t get int the middle class? Its a gd thing that crprate prfits are high; I want American businesses t succeed

、. Its agd thing that the stck market is bming; a lt f flks have 401Ks in there, I want them tfeel gd. But I als want t see the guy whs breaking his back n tw eight-hur shifts shney t send his kids t cllege, I want t make sure that guy is getting abreak. I want t make sure hes getting sme help. (Appl

、ause.) I want t see that wman whswrked fr 40 years be able t retire with sme dignity and sme respect. (Applause.) Thatshw I measure prgress - nt just by hw well the ecnmy is ding verall but hw itsding fr flks wh are wrking s hard ding everything right, just want a fair sht, and didnthave anything ha

、nded t them in their lives, werent brn with a silver spn in their muths. And the reasn thats wh Im thinking abut is because thats the family I grew up in. Thatsthe family Michelles family grew up in. This cuntry gave me a chance. It gave Michelle achance. I believe in the American Dream because I hav

、e lived it. (Applause.) And I ran fr thisffice t restre it fr everybdy s n matter what yu lk like, and n matter where yucame frm, n matter hw yu started, yu can make it in America if yu try. (Applause.)S thats whats at stake right nw. Thats whats at stake: making sure the ecnmy wrks freverybdy. Ive

、gt a visin f an ecnmy where pprtunity is pen t everybdy whswilling t wrk hard. I want an ecnmy where new, lng-term investments in Americanenergy and American infrastructure and American manufacturing and American innvatin areunleashing new jbs in new industries right here in Wiscnsin, right here in

、Milwaukee; anecnmy where ur wrkers have the chance t earn new skills that lead t that gd jb;where children graduate frm schl fully prepared fpetitin theyre gingt face.I want an ecnmy where yur hard wrk pays ff with higher wages, and higher incmes, andfairer pay fr wmen, and wrkplace fleibility fr pa

、rents, and affrdable health insurance, and decent retirement benefits. (Applause.) Im nt asking fr the mn, I just want a gddeal fr American wrkers. (Applause.)Smetimes when I talk abut this stuff t sme f my flks n the ther side f the aisle, theyre all like, well, why are yu stirring up class resentmen

、ts? Im nt stirring up classresentment.Let me tell yu smething, wrking families, theyre fine that flks are rich. The average persn, theyre nt lking fr a yacht. Theyre nt lking fr their wn plane. Theyre nt lking fra mansin. They dnt need t be vacatining in St. Barts. All theyre lking fr is that if they

、wrk hard, they can pay the bills; that they can send their kids t schl; they can retire withsme dignity, maybe take a vacatin nce in a while - g t Wiscnsin Dells r smething. They aint lking fr nthing fancy. (Applause.) Thats where Michelle and I used t take Maliaand Sasha. Wed be in that water s lng,

、 fingers all pruned up. And there were a lt f littlekids in there, which made yu a little suspicius abut the water. (Laughter.) Im just saying. That was nt in the prepared remarks. (Laughter.)Nw, mst f the plicies Im talking abut have tw things in cmmn: Theyre ging t helpmre wrking families get ahead

、, and the Republicans wh run ur Cngress ppse almst allf them.AUDIENCE: B -THE PRESIDENT: Dnt b, vte. (Applause.) Dnt b, vte. Its easy t b - I want yut vte. Dnt b, vte. They ppse almst everything. Im nt making that up; Im justtelling the truth. Its just the facts. In fact, they ppse stuff they used t

、be fr. N, its true. I mean, they used t be frbuilding rads and bridges and all that - nw, suddenly, n, we cant build rads. Well, whynt? Because yu ppse - because yu prpsed it. I am just telling the truth. The sky isblue tday. Milwaukee brats are delicius. The Brewers are tied fr first place. (Applau

、se.) AndRepublicans in Cngress lve t say n. Thse are just facts, theyre facts f life. They say n teverything. If we had a Cngress that cared abut plicies that actually helped wrking peple, I prmiseyu we culd get everything dne that weve talked abut ding. But until we have thatCngress, its up t us t f

、ight fr these plicies.S wherever I can, Ive acted n my wn. I acted n my wn t make sure mre wmen had theprtectins they needed t fight fr fair pay n the wrkplace - because I think when wmensucceed, America succeeds. (Applause.) I was raised by a single mm, s knw hw hard it isfr a lt f wmen ut there. A

、nd, by the way, men, yu shuld want yur wife t get paid fair.Shes bringing that mney hme. Thats nt a wmens issue, thats yur issue. (Applause.)Thats mney ut f yur familys pcket.Thats why I tk actin n my wn t give millins f Americans the chance t cap theirstudent lan payments at 10 percent f their incm

、es. (Applause.) I dnt want yung peplesaddled with debt when theyre just starting ut in life. Thats why I acted n my wn t makesure cmpanies that receive federal cntracts, that they pay their wrkers a fair wage f at least$10.10 an hur. If yu wrk full time in America, yu shuldnt be living in pverty, yu

、shuldnt be trying t supprt a family in pverty. (Applause.)And in the year and a half since I first asked Cngress t raise the minimum wage - f curse, the Republicans in Cngress have blcked it - but mre and mre Americans are ding theirpart t make it happen. This is why I stay ptimistic, even with sme f

、 the nnsense thatges n in Washingtn. Yuve seen business leaders at cmpanies like The Gap that raisedbase wages fr tens f thusands f wrkers because they knew it was gd fr business.Yuve seen mayrs acrss the cuntry ding their part, and tday, n Labr Day, the mayr fLs Angeles is annuncing a plan t raise

、his citys minimum wage.Yuve seen - heres a gd stry. Last mnth, the president f Kentucky State University, hegave himself a $90,000 pay cut s that he culd raise wages fr his lwest-paid emplyees. (Applause.) Thirteen states, District f Clumbia - theyve raised their minimum wages. Furmre states are put

、ting minimum wage initiatives n the ballt in Nvember. And yu knw what, heres the best part - yull hear ppnents, theyll say, well, minimumwage, theyre ging t kill jbs. Ecept it turns ut, the states where the minimum wage hasgne up this year had higher jb grwth than the states that didnt raise the mini

、mum wage.Thats the facts. (Applause.)All acrss the cuntry right nw, theres a natinal mvement ging n made up f fast fdwrkers rganizing t lift wages s they can prvide fr their families with pride and dignity. There is n denying a simple truth: America deserves a raise. Flks are ding very well n WallStr

、eet, theyre ding very well in the crprate bard rms - give America a raise. (Applause.)And I think, ngress is ging t hear them. Well break thse flks dwn. Welljust stay n them. Well just keep at it. Thats hw I gt Michelle t marry me - I just wre herdwn. (Laughter.) Persistence - yu just stay at it. Bec

、ause the nly thing mre pwerful thanan idea whse time has cme is when millins f peple are rganizing arund an idea whsetime has cme. Millins f peple are vting fr an idea whse time has cme. (Applause.)I knw it gets frustrating, thugh, when it feels like yur vices arent heard in Washingtn. Iprmise yu I

、share that frustratin. After all that unins have dne t build and prtectwrking Americans, I knw its frustrating when peple have the gall t blame yu fr theprblems facing wrking Americans. I knw yuve gt sme eperience with that arund here. (Applause.)But yu knw what, if I were lking fr a gd jb that lets

、 me build sme security fr myfamily, Id jin a unin. (Applause.) If I were busting my butt in the service industry andwanted an hnest days pay fr an hnest days wrk, Id jin a unin. If I were a firefighter rplice fficer risking my life and helping t keep my cmmunity safe, and wanted t make sureI came hm

、e safely t my family, Id jin a unin. (Applause.) Id want a unin lking ut frme. And if I cared abut these things, Id als want mre Demcrats lking ut fr me. Im justsaying. (Applause.) Because when the rest f the cuntry is wrking t raise wages, butRepublicans in Cngress wnt, it aint right. Nt nly is it n

、t right, it aint right. (Laughter.)When the rest f the cuntry is wrking t pen up mre businesses, but Republicans inCngress blck investments that wuld help mre businesses grw, it aint right. When uninsand CEs, when law enfrcement and the evangelical cmmunity, when flks wh usuallydnt agree n anything

、agree that we shuld be fiing ur brken immigratin system, but theRepublicans in the Huse f Representatives have been sitting n a bill fr mre than a year, itaint right.S thats why we have t keep fighting. At the beginning f the last century, peple fughtagainst the idea f a 40-hur wrkweek, they fught a

、gainst weekends, they fught againstwrkplace safety laws. 80 years ag, peple fught against the idea f Scial Security. 50 yearsag, peple fught against the idea f Medicare. But guess what? We wn thse fights. (Applause.)And just like in the past, tday, yuve still gt peple fighting against the right fr h

、ealth carefr everybdy, r the right t fair wages, r they even fight against equal pay fr equal wrk.But we will win thse fights, t. I prmise. And I knw that because America is the stry fprgress. It can be slw, yes. It can be frustrating. Smetimes yu get half a laf where yuwanted the whle laf - smetime

、s yu might just get a quarter f a laf.But if yu lk at ur histry, the stry is prgress. And thats because there have always beenAmericans wh have had the curage t march and t rganize and t fight fr themselves, but then als t fight fr each ther. And Im asking yu t d the same thing. I asked yu thesame th

、ing back in 2019年.Im asking yu t believe nt just in my ability t bring abut the change we need, Im askingyu t believe in yurs. Im asking yu t believe in yu. Because even when ur plitics justaint right, theres a whle lt that is right with America.America is that dad wh punches in every mrning t put f

、d n the table. America is themm whs wrking the graveyard shift t prvide fr her kids. America is the child whdreams f being the first in his family t g t cllege. America is the teacher wh stays afterwrk and dips int her wn pcket fr supplies t help that child get there. America is theautwrker wh thught shed never make anther car again, and nw she cant make themfast enugh.
