He came to China to help the Chinese people and died for them.die for 意為“為而死”。die of 意為 “因而死”(原因多來自內(nèi)部如情感、凍餓、生病等), 其后跟hunger, cold, illness, old age, a fever, heat等名詞。die from 意為“由于而死”(外因) (原因常來自外部創(chuàng)傷、交通事故), 其后常跟wound, acciden
7、t, over work, carelessness, drinking 等名詞。. He died of lung cancer. 他死于肺癌。 The man died from a car accident. 這個男人死于一場交通事故。 He would rather die for his belief. 他寧愿為他的信仰而死。2. He soon realised that many people were dying because they did not get to hospital quickly enough.realise v. 了解; 意識到表示認識到或承認某事物屬實
8、。. He doesnt seem to have realised how serious the matter is. realise還有“實現(xiàn)”的意思, 指實現(xiàn)夢想、計劃、希望等。. At last Mr. Smith realised his plan to spend a holiday in China. dying是die的-ing形式, 常用做形容詞,意思是“垂死的; 即將死亡的”, 常用做表語或定語。. The old man is dying. The doctor tried to save the dying boy.辨析:die是短暫性動詞, 意為“死亡”, 指生命的
9、結束, 強調(diào)“死”的動作。death是die的名詞形式, 意為“死亡”。dead是形容詞, 意為“死的”, 通常和be動詞連用, 表示狀態(tài)。3. Dr Bethune developed new ways of taking care of the sick. take care of 照顧; 護理 . Dont worry. Ill take care of you. 別擔心。我會照顧你的。 the sick的結構是形容詞前面加上定冠詞,表示復數(shù)概念,泛指某一類人。這類結構做主語時謂語動詞要用復數(shù)形式。如:The young have plenty of opportunities here
10、. 年輕人在這里有大量的機會。 The blind learn skills in special schools. 盲人在特殊學校學習技能。4. Once, he even worked for sixty-nine hours without stopping and managed to save over one hundred lives. manage在句子中的意思是“設法完成”,后面跟動詞不定式,manage to do sth. 如:He managed to finish his work on time. 他設法按時完成了他的工作。5. but he continued h
11、is work without treating it.continue可作不及物動詞, 意為“繼續(xù); 持續(xù)”。. The rain continued all day.continue可作及物動詞, 意為“繼續(xù)”, 其后可接名詞(短語)、動詞不定式 / 動詞-ing形式等。. We decided to continue our long journey.
