5、動詞-ing形式作定語（1）當(dāng)動詞-ing形式單獨作定語時，放在所修飾的名詞前；如果是動詞-ing形式短語作定語則放在所修飾的名詞后。In the following years he worked even harder.在后來的幾年中，他工作更努力了。The man speaking to the teacher is our monitors father.正與老師談話的那個人是我們班長的父親。（2）動詞-ing形式可置于名詞前作定語，表示被修飾的名詞的用途、特征和性質(zhì)。a walking stick 拐杖a reading room 閱覽室a sleeping car 臥鋪車2.動詞-

6、ing形式作狀語動詞-ing形式作狀語，常常表示原因、時間、條件、結(jié)果、讓步、方式或伴隨情況等。（1）作時間狀語，相當(dāng)于when，while，since等引導(dǎo)的時間狀語從句。Hearing the bad news, they couldnt help crying.When they heard the bad news, they couldnt help crying.當(dāng)聽到這個不幸的消息時，他們情不自禁地哭了起來。（2）作原因狀語，相當(dāng)于because，since，as等引導(dǎo)的原因狀語從句。Not understanding this problem, he asked the tea
