5、動詞-ing形式作定語(1)當(dāng)動詞-ing形式單獨作定語時,放在所修飾的名詞前;如果是動詞-ing形式短語作定語則放在所修飾的名詞后。In the following years he worked even harder.在后來的幾年中,他工作更努力了。The man speaking to the teacher is our monitors father.正與老師談話的那個人是我們班長的父親。(2)動詞-ing形式可置于名詞前作定語,表示被修飾的名詞的用途、特征和性質(zhì)。a walking stick 拐杖a reading room 閱覽室a sleeping car 臥鋪車2.動詞-
6、ing形式作狀語動詞-ing形式作狀語,常常表示原因、時間、條件、結(jié)果、讓步、方式或伴隨情況等。(1)作時間狀語,相當(dāng)于when,while,since等引導(dǎo)的時間狀語從句。Hearing the bad news, they couldnt help crying.When they heard the bad news, they couldnt help crying.當(dāng)聽到這個不幸的消息時,他們情不自禁地哭了起來。(2)作原因狀語,相當(dāng)于because,since,as等引導(dǎo)的原因狀語從句。Not understanding this problem, he asked the tea
7、cher about it.Because he didnt understand this problem, he asked the teacher about it.因為不理解這個問題,他問了老師。Not knowing his address, I cant send this book to him.As I dont know his address, I cant send this book to him.因為不知道他的地址,我不能把這本書送給他。(3)作條件狀語。相當(dāng)于if,unless等引導(dǎo)的條件狀語從句。Going straight down the road, you
8、will find the department store.If you go straight down the road, you will find the department store.順著這條路一直走,你就會發(fā)現(xiàn)那家百貨商店。(4)作結(jié)果狀語常表示自然而然的結(jié)果。People from all the corners came to the city center, making it very crowded.各地的人們來到了市中心,這使市中心非常擁擠。(5)作方式或伴隨狀語。表示一個同時發(fā)生的次要的(或者伴隨的)動作,常用逗號與句子主體部分隔開,相當(dāng)于并列句。One eve
9、ning Harry phoned me, asking me to come to his flat as soon as possible.One evening Harry phoned me, and he asked me to come to his flat as soon as possible.一天晚上哈里給我打電話,要我盡快去他的公寓。(6)作讓步狀語。相當(dāng)于though,although,even if等引導(dǎo)的讓步狀語從句。Knowing all this, they made me pay for the damage.Although they knew all th
10、is, they made me pay for the damage.盡管知道了一切情況,他們還是要我賠償損失。3.動詞-ing形式作賓語補足語(1)動詞-ing形式可在watch,see,hear,feel,find,notice,smell等表示感官和心理狀態(tài)的動詞后作賓語補足語。I felt my heart beating violently.我覺得我的心在猛烈地跳動。(2)動詞-ing形式可在have,keep,set,get等表示“使”“讓”的動詞后作賓語補足語。He had the light burning all night, which made his parents
