Askstudentshowtheyfeelaboutreadingandwhattypesofbookstheyenjoy.

ExplainthattodayyouwillbesharingastoryaboutTom,whofoundanewhobby-reading.

ReadTom’sstorytothestudents.Youcanusethefollowingscript:

Tomwasanenergeticsix-graderwholovedtoplaysoccerandwatchsciencefictionmovies.However,heneverfoundreadinginterestingandoftensawitasachore.

Oneday,Tom’steacherrecommendedabookaboutaboywholovedsoccerandsciencefiction.Tomdecidedtogiveitatryandfoundthatheenjoyedreadingabouthisinterests.

Afterfinishingthebook,Tomaskedhisteacherforotherbooksthathemightlike.Hesoonfoundhimselflookingforwardtoreadinganddiscoveringnewbooksthatheenjoyed.

Activity(30minutes)

Distributeblankpapersandpencilstoeachstudent.

Askthemtowritedowntheirpersonalinterestsinonecolumn,andinthesecondcolumn,listthetypeofbooksthattheythinkwouldhelpthemenjoyreading.
