amhisbestfriend,andIllalwayswatchoverhim,andseethathes

notledintoanytemptation.Besides,ifHanscamehere,hemight

askmeforsomeflour.Flourisonething,andfriendshipisanother,

andtheyshouldntbeconfused.Thewordsarespeltdifferently,and

meanquitedifferentthings.Everybodycanseethat."Helooked

seriouslyathisson,whofeltsoashamedthathehunghisheaddown,

andgrewquitescared,andbegantocryintohistea.

Springcoming,theMillerwentdowntoseeHans.Againhetalked

prettyroses,andfilledtheMillersbasket,imaginingthemanygood

thingspromisedbytheMiller.

ThenextdayheheardtheMillercalling:"Hans,wouldyoumind

carryingthissackofflourformetomarket?"

“Imsorry,butIamreallyverybusytoday.”

“Well,“saidtheMiller,''consideringthatImgoingtogiveyou

mythings,itsratherunfriendlyofyoutorefuse.Uponmyword,you

mustntmindmyspeakingquiteplainlytoyou.”

PoorHanswasdrivenbyhisfriendshiptheorytoworkhardfor

hisbestfriend,leavinghisgardendryandwasted.

theboy.However,Hansgotlostinthedarkness,andwanderedoff

intoadeeppool,drowned.
