18、es and his father, Robert, set out from Key West, Florida, on foot. Their plan was to cover 4, 000 miles across America, ending in Blaine, Washington. Why the long walk? Noah, whos only 11 years old, is on a mission to raise awareness of Type 1 Diabetes. Noah was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at th

19、e age of 16 months and has been living with the daily struggle of managing his diabetes ever since. According to the American Diabetes Association, over 1.25 million Americans have the disease.“When Noah first came up with this idea, initially I thought, Well, thats really charming and cute,” Joanne

20、 Barnes, Noahs Mum, recalls. “But when you started thinking about it logistically and financially, leaving home to do thisit was completely nuts! And I started thinking about how huge this wasNoah would do something really big, and why would I hold him back from doing something really great?” The Ba

21、rnes decided to set out on the journey as a family. Robert quitted his job and they sold their house in Juno Beach. Early on the morning of January 1st, 2017, Noah began his long walk across America. Robert accompanied Noah on every step, with Mum and the other two children advancing in the familys

22、orange Jeep Wrangler, providing support, and walking with Robert and Noah on occasion.Robert and Noahs routine consisted of walking 8 to 12 hours per day, 6 days a week, with an extra day off once a month. They covered 16 miles per day, on average. Meanwhile, Joanne homeschooled the children on the

23、road.On the road, Noah and his family met hundreds of people, spreading the word about Noahs disease and raising awareness of a cure.
