Introduction:

2.SentenceStructure:

Englishsentencesfollowaspecificstructureandarrangementofwordstoconveymeaning.Thebasicsentencestructureconsistsofasubject,averb,andanobject(SVO).However,therearedifferenttypesofsentenceswithvaryingstructures:

-SimpleSentence:Asentencewithoneindependentclause(e.g.,Shesingsbeautifully).

-CompoundSentence:Asentencewithtwoormoreindependentclausesjoinedbyacoordinatingconjunction(e.g.,Ilikecoffee,butshepreferstea).

-ComplexSentence:Asentencewithoneindependentclauseandatleastonedependentclause(e.g.,Afterhefinishedhishomework,hewatchedTV).

-Compound-ComplexSentence:Asentencewithtwoormoreindependentclausesandatleastonedependentclause(e.g.,Iwenttothestore,butIforgotmywalletbecauseIwasinahurry).

3.Tenses:

Englishverbschangetheirformaccordingtodifferenttenses,indicatingwhenanactiontakesplace.Themaintensesinclude:

-PresentSimple:Usedforactionsthataregeneraltruths,habits,orroutines(e.g.,IplaytenniseverySunday).

-PresentContinuous:Usedforactionshappeningatthemomentofspeakingortemporarysituations(e.g.,Heisreadingabookrightnow).

-PastSimple:Usedforcompletedactionsinthepast(e.g.,ShestudiedEnglishlastnight).

-PastContinuous:Usedforactionsthatwereinprogressataspecifictimeinthepast(e.g.,TheywerewatchingamoviewhenIcalled).

4.ActiveandPassiveVoice:

Englishsentencescanbewrittenineitheractiveorpassivevoice.Inactivevoice,thesubjectperformstheaction,whileinpassivevoice,thesubjectreceivestheaction.Forexample:

-ActiveVoice:Thedogchasedthecat.

-PassiveVoice:Thecatwaschasedbythedog.

Thechoicebetweenactiveandpassivevoicedependsontheemphasisgiventothesubjectorobjectofthesentence.

5.ConditionalSentences:

Conditionalsentencesexpressaconditionanditsconsequence.Theyconsistofan"if"clause(thecondition)andamainclause(theconsequence).Therearefourtypesofconditionalsentences:

-ZeroConditional:Usedforgeneraltruthsorscientificfacts(e.g.,Ifyouheatwater,itboils).

-FirstConditional:Usedforpossiblefutureactions(e.g.,Ifitrains,wewillstayathome).

-SecondConditional:Usedforhypotheticalorunrealsituationsinthepresent/future(e.g.,IfIwonthelottery,Iwouldtraveltheworld).

-ThirdConditional:Usedforhypotheticalorunrealsituationsinthepast(e.g.,Ifshehadstudiedmore,shewouldhavepassedtheexam).

6.Modals:

Modalsarehelpingverbsthatexpresspossibility,certainty,necessity,permission,andability.Commonmodalsincludecan,could,may,might,must,shall,should,will,andwould.Theyareusedtomodifythemeaningofthemainverbinasentence.Forexample:

-HecanspeakSpanish.

-Sheshouldstudyforthetest.

Modalscanalsobeusedtoformquestionsandnegativestatements.
