1、 Teaching Design of Unit6, Im Watching TV. “Reply to Zhu Huis email” (Reviewing by topics). Teaching contents The content of this lesson is from text book, Go for it, Unit6, Grade7. And this lesson is the reviewing lesson of Unit6. The following contents are included: First is about the words of thi

2、s unit, like newspaper, drink, wish, study, miss, America and so on. Then is about the grammar of this unit, the Present Progressive Tense. Students should be able to make good use of this important structure “be doing” to make suitable dialogues. Last is about the thematic meaning, that is to talk

3、about some traditions and significance of the Dragon Boat Festival and all festivals. Analysis of the teaching materials This class is the reviewing class of Unit6. The Unit6 itself is just the one which is interesting, useful and also, important. Its interesting not boring, because the topic is abo

4、ut daily activities and traditional festivals, which is treated in excitement by our students from the beginning to the end of this unit. Its also useful, because this unit is talking about what people are doing, which will be used in our daily life widely. However, this unit is quite important. The

5、 Present Progressive Tense and “be doing” appear in this unit for the first time. As the last part, this class is mainly to check students learning facts, to expand students output and to improve students abilities of expressions. By talking about “Zhu Huis email”, students can learn and review the

6、target language well. Analysis of the studentsThe students we are going to give class to are in junior. Most of them are generally interested in English. But the problems are obvious. First, they are poor in making sentences logically for they have learned English for only a short time. Also, we hav

7、e to face the fact that our students are the ones who dont have good learning conditions. But luckily, this class is useful and close to to their daily life, which means they are familiar with such language situations. So during this lesson, wed like to choose a softer and easier way to carry out ou

8、r lesson. Teaching objectives 1, knowledge objectives: By the end of this class, students should be able to 1) control the important new words and phrases appeared in Unit6 better, including: newspaper, use, make soup, wash, movie, go to the movies, drink, tea, tomorrow, pool, shop, supermarket, rac

9、e, host family, study, the United States, the Dragon Boat Festival, any other, young, children, miss, wish, delicious and so on. 2) master the Present Progressive Tense and the changes of the verbs present participle. 3) distinguish the differences between the Present Progressive Tense and the Simpl

10、e Present Tense.2, ability objectives: 1) after this class, students can use the words, sentences and even short paragraphs to express what they are doing. 2) students should have a better understanding on “ time differences”. 3, Affection objective: building the knowledge of the Chinese traditional

11、 festivals by talking about the traditions and significance of the Dragon Boat Festival. Teaching important points 1, the deeper understanding of the Present Progressive Tense; 2, the structure “What are you doing?” “What is he/ she doing?”and “What are they doing?” in all forms are important: the s

12、tatements, the questions, the answers. 3, the understanding of our traditional culture and festivals is also important. Teaching difficult points However, its quite difficult for our students to organize the words and sentences into a complete and correct paragraph. The time differences of different

13、 countries are also a little difficult for some students. Teaching methods Audio lingual method; Read and repeat; Presentation. . Teaching procedures Step 1, Warming up;Teacher let students read the passage about Zhu Hui (Section B 2d) in Unit6.Students read the passage together.The purpose is to le

14、t our students calm down and go back to our class quickly. Step 2, Leading in the topic;Teacher introduce Zhu Hui and let Students review some basic information about Zhu Hui by finishing Exercise 1.Students complete the chart and check the answers.The purpose is to to arouse Students memories of Zh

15、u Hui and to review some expressions appeared before. Step 3, Listening to Zhu Huis email;Teacher show the listening material and let Students listen to the email from Zhu Hui.Students listen to Zhu Huis email and find out his three tasks. The purpose is to improve the listening skills of students,

16、and make good preparation of our topics and contents. Step 4, Reviewing the countries and time differences;Teacher show students some national flags of different countries, including China, America, the UK, South Africa, Australia and Japan on the PPT, and let students identify these countries. Then

17、, show the time differences of these countries.Students speak out the names of the countries quickly and then, practice sentences with the “time differences”. The purpose is to let Students review the names of the countries and have a better understanding on the “time differences”. Step 5, A game on

18、 “time differences”;Teacher show the following structure to Students: “Im_. Im in _ now. Its_here”.Students speak this structure out according to their own choices and then ask anyone else in the class to continue. The purpose is to finish the first task of the email to Zhu Hui and let Students be m

19、ore familiar with the “time differences”.Step 6, Revision on Present Progressive Tense;Teacher introduce the grammar and let students finish Exercise 2.Students finish Exercise 2 and check the answers.The purpose is to review the grammar and know better on the “ing” form.Step 7, Talk about peoples a

20、ctivities and finish the second task;Teacher ask questions about peoples activities in the pictures shown on PPT.Students answer the questions and then, make conversations in groups to ask peoples activities.The purpose is to practice the structure “What are you doing?” “What is he/ she doing?” “Wha

21、t are they doing?”again.Step 8, A game on “order and performance” ;Teacher gives orders about different activities appeared in this unit and appeared before.Students do as the teacher orders to do.The purpose is to practice students listening again and make students more brave to perform so that the

22、y can do well in the next part.Step 9, Conversation, performance and presentation;Teacher let students practice the conversation.Students practice and perform in groups of four. Two perform and two ask questions according to the performance.The purpose is to let students master the present continuou

23、s tense in real situations.Step 10, The thematic meaning: the traditions and significance of the Dragon Boat Festival;Teacher introduce the third task and show some key pictures as the clues.Students get the key information about the Dragon Boat Festival according to the pictures and finally speak a

24、ll the information out to make a short paragraph.The purpose is to let students pick up the key information about the Dragon Boat Festival and finish the third task to reply Zhu huis email.Step 11, Organize the expressions to reply to Zhu Huis email;Teacher let students write down all the sentences

25、that worked out before by themselves to organize the complete email.Students do as teacher asks.The purpose is to practice the ability of writing.Step 12, presentation;Teacher ask 5 volunteers to stand out to share the email he or she prepared with the whole class.5 Students share the email and othe

26、rs listen to them.The purpose is to practice students speaking, to show the output of this class and to finally finish the last task of Zhu Huis email.Step 13, Further talking on our Chinese traditional festivals; Teacher ask some questions and get to the result that nowadays more and more people on

27、ly pay attention to the Western festivals not our Chinese.Students answer to the questions and get the conclusion together and finally know the importance of our own festivals and culture.The purpose is to let our students care more about the traditional festivals and lead to the thematic meaning ag

28、ain.Step 14, Conclusion and homework;Teacher leads students to review what we have talked this class and give the homework.Students do what teacher requires to do.The purpose is to strengthen what weve learned and emphasized this class. .Teaching reflectionAs the time goes by, Im more and more agree

29、ing to the idea that “Our students will be the ones who you want them to be”. That means, if you believe your students are pretty and you just carry on your teaching in a positive way, then, they will be more pretty even than you expected. Also, your students will be worse and worse if you just beli

30、eve at first that they are poor at learning.I can truly find out some mistakes that I made before in the process of teaching if I just make a self-examination on my teaching career according to the standard above. To be honest, I always reduced the learning requirements of my students before because

31、 I thought they only had a poor learning condition. When it turns to the daily classes, I will only pay attention to the words, phrases and language points, but not the cultures, the backgrounds and the thematic meanings. I thought its not necessary to teach such things because they were a waste of

32、time and also, the words, phrases and language points in each unit were quite more important and useful. So were the cultures, the background introductions and the thematic meanings also important? Maybe they were important, but not important to my students who are poor at English and also have the

33、poor learning conditions. Those ideas were held by me for a long time until recent days.“Our students will be the ones who you want them to be”! Ive been told this idea by the wiser and more experienced teacher for many times. I started to think over myself, especially my teaching. Is that right to reduce our students learning requireme
